RPM vs Cruise MPH

I found a few posts but nothing difinitive. What rpm/gear for the following speeds:

25, 30, 45, 50, 60, 65, 70

Right now I am in 2nd to 25, 3rd to 35. 4th tp 45 amd 5th at 50 and above but this seems to lug just a bit and the cruise will loose speed. I am trying to get the best MPG.

Thanks,

Randy

I think you need to let it wind out a bit more ( Higher Revs ) before you shift. I don't get into 5th unless I'm doing low to mid 60s. My shift point is 5,500 to 6,000 RPM in most gears .

Just me , everyone finds thier own sweet spot ,if you are lugging the motor your RPMs are two low .

At the owners event the factory rep put my Spyder on the BUDS system and looked at my riding profile. As a new rider I was making the common mistake of shifting to early. I had about 75% of my shifts between 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. He explained I should have 75% OVER 4,000 to keep the engine happy. Hope this helps..

Ok, so upshift at about 5500 for each gear. Most of my riding will be in 4th or less then, hard to get used to, lol....

Thanks, I heard several speak about 5500 but was not sure they meant to hold speed at that rpm as well.

Regards,

Randy

You might check out today's thread "Smooth Shifting". Might be what you are looking for.

...Just me again... short-shifting every time and getting between 34 and 35 mpg... Top gear before 40mph and nothing has busted yet! (This ain't an old British spoerts car where you could knock the bottom-end out of the engine! :D)

:agree:Besides the noise the engine makes at relatively high revs doesn't interest me at all, It's not like a Motorcycle where high rev's have a soul.:dontknow:

Honestly I don't know. :opps: I normally drive "by the tach", but some reason this Spyder is "speed monitored"...
2nd to 3rd at about 24 mph
3rd to 4th at about 30 mph
top gear is grabbed at 39 mph.
This having been said; a lot of folks here keep telling me that I should rev it up and "let slip the dogs of War.." :D
But I'm pretty happy mucking along in the "olphart" lane and enjoying the scenery...

I usually do all my shifting when the rpm's reach about 4000- 4500 rpm. The motor sounds great to me and gears want to be shifted at this rpm range BUT JMHO:D I have an RTS with SE5 trans.

Have a heart, Bob, many a middle aged Brit alive today owes his conception to his parents breaking down in an old British sports car.:roflblack:

:D Nothing (well... ALMOST nothing!) gets my heart to racing like an old Brit-open; up on the cams and singing to the Gods of speed! :2thumbs:

Most of those conceptions occured as a result of electrical failures anyway...
Lighting by Lucas; the Prince of Darkness! :roflblack:

All that I meant was that lugging these engines doesn't have the same potential for disaster as in the good old days...
