• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RPM Shifting

Few days back I reviewed a post that had very interesting information on operation of a Spyder. One of the topics was shifting at proper RPM. Does anyone know where I might find this post. Thank you for your help.

The rpm's are different depending on whether you are driving the two cylinder model or the three cylinder model.

The two cylinder likes high rpms. Most shift at 5000 - 5500 rpms. You should keep the engine in this "happy" range regardless what gear you are in. That means first and second gear operation in town. Up to fourth gear in those 55 zones. Fifth gear in 60 + situations.

The three cylinder likes to be shifted in the 2500 - 3500 range. I shift at 3000 and above. I keep the gears in that "happy" range. You will use 6th gear at 55 mph on this one.

The three cylinder has an eco mode that tells you when to shift up--should you choose to use it. It tells you to shift at the 2500 - 2700 range.

You are going to get about 31 mpg with the two cylinder and 39-41 mpg with the three cylinder.

FWIW, I found this pretty accurate with a stock exhaust. If you install the Pitbull cat bypass pipe, you can still shift in this range, but the machine seems happier and more fun winding it up to 4500 rpm or just slightly less. The exhaust note is a good indicator with the bypass.

The 1330 is pretty Un-fussy about rpm levels for shifting...
I'm the guy who's tapping levers at 2,000 to 2,500 rpm, and bike just seems to eat it up!
