Rotted Vacuum lines? Purge Valve?

I have been reading a number of reports on SL about rotted vacuum lines. Are the rotted lines causing stalling. Are the rotted lines due to heat? Please enlighten me on how they work with the fuel system? Also I'm reading about bad purge valves? Pardon my ignorance, what is the function of the purge valve?

Spydermike had a problem this weekend. Pulled codes (don't remember which ones but are on a thread) he checked lines and is not sure that is the problem. They look good to him. Taking to shop tomorrow.

Damaged vacuum hoses or sensor hoses attached to the intake system, as well as a faulty purge valve, can all do the same thing. They cause a vacuum leak, which allows air to be pulled into the intake outside of the normal path, which upsets the fuel mixture and can change the expected air flow. To think of it simply, the engine pulls in plain air instead of fuel mixture...and plain air doesn't burn too well. Here endeth the lesson.

Being on this site is like reading a medical book. Just because you read about others troubles doesn't mean you have the same problem or ever will. It is educational and information that will help if the occasion should arise...good maintenance pulling the panels and maintaining the engine compartment clean will help avoid these problems...that's my way....hyea:

Also, figure both lines have the same OD but one has a larger ID. (I forget which one...). That larger ID line has a pretty thin wall. I can see it breaking down pretty quick.
Even though they looked ok, I already swapped both of mine out with some better quality and thicker wall lines I had leftover from my jetski days.
