Went to Lamont's to wrench on the Spyder in preparation for the Magog trip. Forgot the Thermal Paste for the Iridium spark plugs we both wanted to install.
Already had most of the tupperware off my Spyder so I rode Lamont's SM5 home to get it.
He wanted me to check his steering to see if I thought it was working properly as he's gotten used to the RT and his RS (he says) steers stiffer. Since I'm used to my RS it was a good way to get a second opinion.
It's not far from Lamont's to my house, but there are plenty of turns, humps, bumps, etc., so it's a decent workout. I ride this piece of road a lot so it's easier to notice any differences.
As I was paying close attention to the steering at different speeds I noticed that the suspension was really nice. His Spyder soakes up the bumps much better than mine without feeling mushy. On the contrary, it was a smoother yet more controlled ride.
Usually, to get cush, you give up control and vise-versa.
I figured it was his Elka shocks and thought, well yes, for that kind of money I should notice a difference!
So when I got back I commented to Lamont that I really liked the Elka's. And then he reminded me of what I already knew (if I'd been thinking). He moved the Elka's to his RT and put the RT shocks on his RS. So it was the stock RT Shocks that had impressed me so much.
Honestly, I was really suprised at the difference in the ride. Now for the price of a set of RT shocks I might be up for a set.
