• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rode Lamontster's RS today...

Went to Lamont's to wrench on the Spyder in preparation for the Magog trip. Forgot the Thermal Paste for the Iridium spark plugs we both wanted to install.

Already had most of the tupperware off my Spyder so I rode Lamont's SM5 home to get it.

He wanted me to check his steering to see if I thought it was working properly as he's gotten used to the RT and his RS (he says) steers stiffer. Since I'm used to my RS it was a good way to get a second opinion.

It's not far from Lamont's to my house, but there are plenty of turns, humps, bumps, etc., so it's a decent workout. I ride this piece of road a lot so it's easier to notice any differences.

As I was paying close attention to the steering at different speeds I noticed that the suspension was really nice. His Spyder soakes up the bumps much better than mine without feeling mushy. On the contrary, it was a smoother yet more controlled ride.

Usually, to get cush, you give up control and vise-versa.

I figured it was his Elka shocks and thought, well yes, for that kind of money I should notice a difference!

So when I got back I commented to Lamont that I really liked the Elka's. And then he reminded me of what I already knew (if I'd been thinking). He moved the Elka's to his RT and put the RT shocks on his RS. So it was the stock RT Shocks that had impressed me so much.

Honestly, I was really suprised at the difference in the ride. Now for the price of a set of RT shocks I might be up for a set.

I wonder if the dealer will install these?

I don't see why they wouldn't. It's a super-simple install after you have the shocks assembled. You either need to buy a cheap-o spring compressor (like $25 harbor freight crap) or go to an auto shop and have them compress and put the springs on the shocks for you.

I assume the RT shocks don't come with the springs. I would think the springs from an RT would be a little stronger and would be the best part of the swap.

Doing some research on this subject. I found the adjust ring and spring stopper are the same on the shocks. So if you wanted to take the time and use parts off the old shocks would save $13.57 per shock. Buy just the shock, spring and cap $95.91 per shock. I got these prices off online Canam dealer. They are suppose to be a discount on all parts. Don't know what local dealer are charging. I may call today and get local pricing. Difference may offset shipping cost. Here is a break down of part #'s and prices.

Shock 706000675 $61.62 each
Spring 706000676 $31.87 each
Cap 706200785 $ 2.21 each

sub-total $95.91 each

Adjuster ring 706000294 $ 7.93 each
Spring stopper 706200881 $ 5.94 each

Total all new $109.48 each

I'm pretty sure the damping in the shock is different too.

The BRP online parts catalog list #13 XXX as shock assembly includes 13-18
No part # for the whole assembly. 14-18 is individual parts for shocks.
The shocks (front) for 2008 GS(RS), 2009 & 2010 RS are the same 505071705
The RTS shocks is a different part # 706000675
I hope to get this mod before Gatlinburg!
