• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Road Signs

I like the yellow warning signs here in Wisconsin that tell us "Hill Blocks View".

Well DUH. So does putting your hands over your eyes. :yikes:

Those are starting to appear in Florida too.
I don't understand the logic at all.

They seem to be replacing the "No Passing" signs.

I fear that is a HUGE mistake.

Really ?

I know we don't need any reason to just go and enjoy the ryde, but when I'm out there I tend to notice road/street signs. Perhaps there are interesting road/street signs where you ryde.

I use a Mobil Speed Pass when I gas up my Spyder....jump off, wave the little black wand in front of the pump and I'm ready to pump. No muss, no fuss. It is very very convenient.

Pulled into a station last week and this sign was neatly printed on the pump..

My favorites in Alabama:

Barren Hollow Rd.
Switchblade Cir. (With a sign under saying "Dead End")

Didn't go down either road. The first seemed uninteresting, and I needed to check my Life Insurance policy for the second one.

We were on a group ride out in the country the Sunday before last and pulled off for a break. While we were standing there talking, I look up and see this sign. Had to take a picture of it.

Wait a minute. There are hills in Florida now? Weren't any when I lived there in the mid 80s. How times change.

Historical Markers are also signs

So if you do not stop and read the historical marker signs you might miss something really interesting. It seems that Aurora, Texas has an interesting past. On April 17, 1897 an "alien spacecraft collided with the tower of Judge Proctors windmill and went to pieces with a terrific explosion." According to The Dallas Morning News as published on April 19, 1897: "The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one on board, and while his remains are badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabitant of this world." We now know for certain that there are aliens. How, well it's easy: Sep 17 04.jpgSep 17 05.jpgSep 17 03.jpgSep 17 02.jpg It's on the internet, the Texas Historical Commission put up a sign, and we know that no American Newspaper would ever publish "fake news." :)

There are a couple of states where they think it is necessary to put "No Left Turn" signs at the end of freeway on-ramps.

Really ?? Who exactly do they think needs to be told that ?? :dontknow:

Ask ANY LEO . . . R-E-A-L-L-Y!! They need to be told that and soooo much more, but that's a whole other thread. :gaah:

(AS the late, great Lt. Sawa always said, "People, the greatest show on earth.")

I suspect that the State Law says; Thou shalt STOP at all railroad crossings where there are not control arms.
And those crossings may actually have a STOP sign.

And the "yield" places are low traffic spurs where a STOP is not usually necessary.

What should the sign say.......Do Not STOP ??? ;)

seems the cross buck sign is explained in the Florida Driver's handbook
and the "yield" added to it is redundant

"CROSSBUCK SIGN
Crossbuck signs are found at highway-rail intersections. They are yield signs. You are legally required to yield the right of way to trains. Slow down, look and listen for a train, and stop if a train approaches. Railroad crossbuck signs are found at most crossings. If there is more than one track, the sign below the crossbuck will show the number of tracks at the crossing."

I must admit that at one point in my life this place, Stoner Hill, would peak my interest!

Are they still open?

Well the northern part of the state actually has a lot of rolling hills and curvy roads.......but you would never know that just from driving THROUGH there on the Interstate on the way to Miami......where it is flat and swampy. ;)

Either things have changed in the past 60 years......or my memory is failing.......or both.
I could swear that almost ALL railroad cross bucks in rural Florida used to include a stop sign.
But maybe that was Georgia.

Either way, point well taken.
