Rivco Customer Service Came Through

This horror story has a happy ending

Last week I ordered the Flag Holders from Rivco. I wanted to have them in time for a couple of American Legion Riders events that I was attending for Memorial Day weekend, so I shelled out the extra bucks for three day delivery. Friday came along, and the UPS truck just sped past my house without stopping to deliver the package that I was expecting. I called UPS, and was told that they were not in possesion of this shipment, and that I should take it up with the merchant. Unfortunately, Rivco was closed for the three day weekend, so there was nothing I could do but steam. Needless to say, I was furious, and fired off a scathing email to Rivco.

To make matters even more aggravating, later that evening I got a phone call from UPS telling me that they had found the package in their "unclaimed" department where it ended up because the merchant (Rivco) had muddled my address and they didn't know where to deliver it. Once I had provided them with my correct address, the rep told me it "should be" delivered Tuesday.

I paid for three day shipping, only to get it in seven days? Now I'm really off the rails!

This morning I received an email, and then a phone call from a very nice man at Rivco who said he would do whatever it took to resolve the problem. Obviously he couldn't turn back the clock and get me the item by last Friday, but he would do what he could. After telling him about my two converstations with UPS. He said he would take it up with them. After talking for awhile it became crystal clear that UPS had screwed up and was lying to me to make it appear that the merchant was the one at fault. They had the package all along, and there was no muddled address. Someone at UPS messed up, and they were trying to lay off my anger to Rivco.

Rivco customer service saved the day. I did get the flag holder today (photo below) , and my shipping cost has been refunded to me as promised. I can't do anything about not getting it in time for Memorial Day, but that's water under the bridge and I'm not going cry about it. What's important is that this company went the extra mile to save a customer. I will now be happy to buy from them again.

We see a lot of complaints about companies not providing customer service. I just wanted to put this out there that Rivco has superb customer service and quality products.

Pam, I don['t mean to steal your thread, but I have those flag holders, and they really look nice. But, I did have trouble with the plastic clips that hold the flag to the poles, as the clips don't allow the flags to spin on the poles and the constant back and forth movement will break the clips. What I wound up doing was find some drinking straws that were just a tad larger than the poles, and some chrome washers with the holes just a tad larger than the poles and then some o'rings that fit the poles very tightly. So, on the pole starting at the bottom I have an o'ring, a washer, the flag with the straw in it, another washer, and then another o'ring, and then the top of the pole. I've had it this way for 6 months now and my flags don't get tangled, and I've never had one come off. If you would like, I can send you a picture, or attach it to this thread.

I'm happy that your story had a happy ending, I too have had really good luck with the vendors associated with the forum.

Pam, sorry, but I've been meaning to ask you, where did you get your Nam decal on your trunk lid. I'd be proud to have that sticker.

Glad to hear this about Rivco. They are not too far from me, so I rode up and had the owner do my highway peg installation early last year. I also know many riders who buy various accessories from them. Based on my experience, and what I've heard from others, Rivco is a top flight operation.

There was a vendor in the lobby of the VA Hospital here in Phoenix who sells all kinds of stickers and decals. I've been there a few times since but he hasn't been there. They tell me he is only there one day a month.

I think you can get them online, maybe Amazon?

You can get all kinds of decals, stickers from Sgt.Grit. I've been dealing with them for several years. Very nice and helpful group. Clarence

You look a little young to have served in Viet Nam (in country). If you did not serve in VN it is against Federal Law to display any medal or ribbon

you did not receiver for such service. JFYI If in fact you did serve in country please pardon my pointing this out. A lot of people do not realize this.

My flags move just fine with the plastic clips although spin?
The original clips have been on over a year not even a crack.

I don't know whether to thank you or be upset. I spent 20 years in the Navy, starting in 1959, while stationed in Fighter Squadron 194 where we flew the first air strikes on Nam before it was even a war. I've been awarded the Vietnam Sevice Award with two bronze stars, so I guess than makes it legal. and I'll turn 77 in July. How in the world would you know how old I am, since we've never met?

Saw your profile picture and wondered about the screen name which had 56 in it. Born in 56 or 56 years old? That started me wondering. Good on you! I flew there from 1964 till 1972. What are you doing to look so young? Just turned 76 April 7th.

Well the screen name is made of of my initials DVS + devious, and the 56 is for my pickup truck that was my daily driver for 18 years, a custom of sorts. as for age, I was born in 39, and for the young thing, I just do my best to do what I want to do, and don't listen to those who say I'm too old to be doing that, I have to admit, it is stating to catch up with me. Genetics has to have some thing to do with it, as there are members of the family that are in their 90' and going strong.

Thank you for your service. My first trip there was in 63 (if I remember correctly, and then 64 and 65 before going back to school and then getting stationed in Florida. Take care, nice talking with you, and you ride safe.

Rivco-----

I got great customer service service from Rivco when purhasing the safety chrome rack for my RT-S. When I first contacted them, a knowledgable person told me that the rack was stilll in the planning stages( because the adjustable length addition) and would be ready in 6 weeks. I just wanted to be sure it would arrive before I went toTucson. It was close but all turned out well----it's a great product and I'll do business with them again.

Poor customer service causes:

I served in Chu Lai, Vietnam with the Americal Division (US Army) from 1968-1969. Thank you for pointing that out, because I too don't care for people displaying awards or ribbons they didn't earn

BTW, I turn 67 this month. Thank you for the compliment :dg1:
