Rights gone too far ??

I feel this is a no win situation. if a home invasion occurs and the blind man draws his weapon, most likely it will be taken away from him and only he will be shot. if he starts shooting randomly around it might scare five out of ten intruders out of the house, unless they know he's blind and then no one would leave. sure it's their rights, and if they feel safer, so be it! in reality it's simply a false sense of security.

On the face of it; I'd have to wonder what they think that they have accomplished? :dontknow:
there are just some things that certain folks cannot do well...
Me for instance:
I can't play any musical instruments
I can't run worth a crap!
I'll never win a beauty contest...
And I ain't all that smart
So why would I feel cheated if I didn't win the Miss America contest while singing the National Anthem at the Olympics, while taking a brief sabbatical from my MENSA meetings? :D

rights

i feel it is just to prove a point that he wanted to get it and he got it. i have a permit in new york city. but it is not a carry it is what they used to call a target permit, but now they call it a premise permit. this means that i can keep it loaded in the house but can only use it if some one comes in the house. if someone is in my yard to steal my bike or something i can not go out with it to protect my property. i have tried many times to get a ccp here and they just laugh. i was very good friends with the number 2 police commissioner of NYC and he couldn't help. the city also made it now that if i want to sell a gun i need their permission to do so. that takes a couple of weeks to get, than if i want to replace the one i sold i need permission to do that.

i really don't need a CCP but the thing is having had a permit from the early 70's i just want one. so i am thinking that this blind man says it my rights to have one so i want it. oh i forgot, if i want to go to a range with my gun i need to write a letter to the nypd and request permission to go on a certain date and time and i can't go till i get it. so you just have to love rules

(The don't actually specify the carry method in NYS; it's either a full-carry, or some sort of premises permit...)
concealed, versus open-carry isn't an issue up here.
I hold a "full-carry" permit;
It says: "License to carry pistol is hereby granted"

when i had my house in FRANKLIN NY that i would use for hunting i tried to get a permit for up there because i used to carry the gun when we went out to dinner but one night a trooper in a diner in ONEONTA saw it and asked me if i had a permit for it. i said yes a NYC permit amended for hunting. so being a trooper he asked, are you hunting now. so i said no but the gun is not loaded, than i got a lecture on not being able to defend the gun because it is unloaded. to make a long story short he let me go but said get a permit here for it. i went to the court house to apply and when asked why i wanted it i said i hunt with it and don't want to leave it in the house when i go out. their answer was that leavt it at home and don't bring it hunting. so that ended that. who knows it might just be my looks

i used to live in watervliet, ny, up in the albany area. (albany county) it took me 6 years and over $1500.00 worth of legal fees to get a pistol permit in albany county back in 1983. (had moved into ny from vt) when i moved out of ny to nj, i was told that i didn't have to relingquish the pistol permit as it was good for life. when hunting deer up at our cabin in ny i was asked by a game warden to see my drivers license when he questioned me about my side arm and my non resident hunting license. i explained the situation and he said that i should have surrendered the permit when i moved out of state. now i was really confused. he said not to let him catch me again wearing the handgun, but you're good to go. i then called remson state police barricks and asked the question and explained the situation and the trooper that i spoke to said i had the right to possess the handgun as i had a valid ny state pistol permit. now who do you believe?

Seriously, So when this blind gentlemen accidently shoot somebody, he could say, I'm sorry I didn't saw them coming.:(:(

As is the case with our media, the press has concentrated the story surrounding the worse possible scenario, a person who is "totally blind". The Iowa law centers around people who are "legally blind". In Iowa, "legal blindness occurs when a person has central visual acuity (vision that allows a person to see straight ahead of them) of 20/200 or less in his or her better eye with correction. With 20/200 visual acuity, a person can see at 20 feet, what a person with 20/20 vision sees at 200 feet." I have 20/500 vision in my left eye, much worse that what Iowa calls "legally blind". With only my left eye, I see things with reduced acuity. I can read if print is black on white, and the text is over 1/2" in height. I can recognize people and function quite well . . . just can't see well enough to drive or read, normally. When I go to the range, I always exercise my off hand and my left eye. Shooting with my left hand and only exposing my left eye while using a barricade, I can easily hit center of target at 25 feet. I have had 20/500 vision in my left eye since birth. I spent 25 1/2 years in the USAF and was even on flying status with a waiver from the SAC Flight Surgeon. There is a HUGE difference between "legally blind" and being totally blind.

Bob: I liked that picture you posted of the gun in another thread yesterday.

No comment here. :bbq::bbq::bbq: My bet is no more than 50 posts.

Tick, Tick, Tick. :roflblack:

A blind person generally develops keen hearing; thus, when a bad guy makes any sound, homeowner knows where he is and cuts loose with a 12 gauge. That will get his attention. The sound of a pump shotgun being racked will likely send him running.

I have a CC...but in NC you can carry open without a lic . We practice the "castle doctrine" down here.

Pretty simple....."shall not be infringed". If and when, a blind person, or any person, does something illegal with their weapon, hold them liable. Until that time, no one has a right to decide what they are capable of, or to posit "what ifs" in order to deny them their rights.

The law is pretty clear, You must be a resident of NY to posses a handgun in NY...
I've been trying for years to get a permit, To ''only'' carry it on my property in NY [1300+Ac.]...
And even a Member of my club who is also a Judge in NY Says he can't help, The law is clear on that...
My handguns are registed in NJ , But i can't take them To NY....:banghead: [Legally]

you're not in the same situation bob! I got my permit when I lived there(ny). you lived in nj when you tried to get a permit. doesn't matter that you own land there, if you've never lived there as a ny resident. completely different.

This is a dangerous dance that you're doing...
Yes; you hold a permit that only residnets of the State are allowed to have...
But you're no longer a resident!
If the wrong Judge and D.A. decided to make an example of you; your goose would be cooked!

You have to be able to see to effectively hit what you're aiming at; even if use of deadly force is justified. Sighted people all too routinely misidentify targets (hunting accidents anyone?), and or hit someone other than the intended target. When you take a fire arms course or self defense class there is a reason you're not taught to close your eyes when you bring up the gun and pull the trigger. I have witnessed dozens of people who were shooting with their eyes closed (Afghan National Police recruits) ....................let's just say they didn't hit their assigned targets. Blind people + guns = STUPID! What's next? We have to allow them to take commercial pilots training too?
