• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Right Tail Lights out

I bought a 2010 RTS with 2800 miles on it about 4 months ago and I see that there are only 3 tail lights working on the right side out of 9. I checked the manual and is shows how to replace all bulbs but the tail lights. I did a search here and didn't find much info on bulb replacement other than it sounded like I might have to tear half the bike apart. Any info on bulbs and replacement will be helpful.

Getting to the tail light isn't that difficult you need a 30 Torx and a flat tip screw driver. Open the rear trunk and side compartments and use the flat tip to remove the strut on each side. Use the 30 Torx to remove the 4 screws from each side compartment and the 4 screws near the opening of the rear trunk. Then you can remove the painted panel. Once you have that off there are 3 more torx to remove and you have access to the tail light. 4 more screws and you can unhook the tail light. From there you are on your own as I haven't had a bulb go out.

Good luck.

There you go...!!

:agree: I have watched them do it a hundred times. Take your time and remember your steps getting there.

Thanks

Similar to getting to the back up bulb from what I read. Do you have any idea what type of bulbs or do I have to get them from the dealer?

This is a hign cost repair.

The real answer to your question that you are describing is the lights behind the red lens of the tail light are LED's. These lights are LED's and on a 12 vdc will always fail in groups of three. Their are actually 12 LED's located under the red lens. Their are 3 in the very center located horizontally and 9 around the parameter. The 9 that light when you turn the key on are serving as running lights. When you step on the brake the 9 increase brightness and the 3 in the center also come on bright. The LED's are not replaceable. Hopefully you have the extended warranty that hasn't expired and can get the dealer to replace it or you will have to order P/N 710001441 RH Tail Light Assembly which is $229.99. The assembly comes with new incandescent bulbs for the backup light and turn signal function.

Ann already described how to get to the tail light assembly.

All too true, I called the dealer today and they were concerned that there were six bulbs out (3 on top and three on bottom) suspecting there might be something else that caused them to fail. Of course they want to get it in and check it out. They said the lens assembly is priced at $249.00. They were going to call to verify BRP covered it under my warranty. Thanks for all your help.
