• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riderscan Blind Spot Mirror

hi, can u explain your fix a little more?

was double sided tape? and you kinda squeeze it into any gaps that develop? something like that?

When mine started to come loose, I cut a few squares of 3M tape and filled in some of the recessed openings on the back of the mirror. This brought up more contact surface area and they haven't moved yet. There is very little surface area with just the raised ridges alone.

hi, question is what squares and what do you mean by "filling in" the squares

i ordered the mirrors from tricled
and trying to understand the quirks of it

Thank you for the suggestion, as I did plan to fill in the squares to put them back on. I really do like them, especially when pulling my trailer. Just so I am clear "otbd" is outbound, or outside from the Spyder. , With "inbd" being inbound, or the inside from the Spyder.

Back of mirror .jpg If you look at this picture you will see the back of the mirror without the 3M tape. You can't tell from the picture, but the squares are about a quarter inch (guessing) deep.

OEM mirror.jpgThe 3M tape attaches to the OEM mirror, and the ridges (or squares) of the Wide-Vu mirror back.

In my opinion the flaw of the design is the back of the Wide-Vu has these squares with empty spaces. The 3M tape is connected to them, and then you attach it to the OEM mirror. The ridges of those said squares are not thick enough to hold the 3M tape to the Wide-Vu mirror. If the squares were solid there would have more than enough contact to hold. I do admit the 3M tape is really hard to remove.

Don't get me wrong, the Wide-Vu mirrors are a great product, but just have to have the flaws fixed.

Like Blue Star said. Since the only real contact surface on the backside of the mirror is the raised ridges which are barely 1/16 inch wide, if that, the direct contact surface to the tape is very limited. You take some more 3M tape and fill in about 4/5 of the square recesses with square pieces of tape. This increases the surface contact area significantly so there is greater holding power. Mine have not budged a bit since I did that.

On mine, the previous owner put on the ones Doc sales. I didn't like them because I couldn't see out of them. When I went to take them off I discovered that they are ADJUSTABLE! Wow, you discover wonders when you actually look closely at something! Anyway, now I like them. They are mounted on the lower outside of the mirror, not on like the pic on Doc's site. Just make sure that if you get them and mount them on the mirror to give enough room so they don't interfere with adjusting the mirror. I need to move one of them for this reason.

I bought mine from TricLED

I bought both the mirror and dash mount from TricLED so I could take advantage of RAM Mounts.

I don't use it as a rearview mirror at all because that just doesn't work, but I've found that I don't have any blind spots now. No one's sneaking up on me!

Another vote for Wide Vue mirrors from TricLED

+ 15 or whatever on the Wide Vue mirrors from TricLED. I was lucky enough to have TricLED install mine even when I was at Spyderfest '17. They've had well over 12,000 miles and some very rough gravel roads worth of travelling. I pressure wash the spyder occasionally and it's sat through winter storage, and recently three days of over 100 degree riding on the back roads of SW Minnesota.

PS. The view beside and behind is fantastic.

Mine too!

I bought the Wide Vu mirrors last fall, and although I love the view they provide, I had problems with both mirrors falling off of my F3. The back of the plastic is a thin waffle design (as you’ve seen from Blue Star’s pics) which has absolutely no surface area for the double-sided tape to stick to and grab. I tried putting extra 3M tape over this waffle to help it stick. The right-side mirror seems to be holding now. But the left-side seems to be ill-fitting, like it’s a hair too small to fit over the stock mirror and gets pushed off. This week it popped off for the ump-teenth time :banghead: so figuring I had nothing to lose, I separated the Wide Vu mirror glass from its plastic base, which is held on by more 3M tape. I used Goof Off to remove the residue and cleaned it really well. Then I placed some strips of new 3M tape to the back center of the glass because ... it bows slightly away from the stock mirror in the middle.

So far this is working REALLY well, and looks stock. If the right side gets loose, I’m going to do the same thing, but for now: ain’t broke, don’t fix.

A word of caution about doing this: I was working with the cleaned mirror in the bright mid-afternoon sun, and suddenly felt a really hot spot on my arm. The back of this mirror can concentrate the reflected sun to a small point and burn you, or something else. Otherwise, a good fix for this poor design.

Thank you for this information, as I was wondering if it could be done. I think I will be looking into doing this.
