Hey there! Had a few folks ask me about my backrest on my 2023 Spyder RTL, so I thought I'd share what I did. I hated where the backrest was hitting my lower back and found it to be most uncomfortable. I have a friend who owns a machine shop and had him modify the bottom of the tang. He increased the slot by 1 inch exactly (do not go over 1”) and he also had to take off a 1/4 of an inch from the bottom of the tang. Because of the curvature of the backrest mount at the bottom, it will not seat properly without taking at least a ¼” off. Also, I found that the 2 screws on the back of the backrest for adjusting the seat height plate will dig into the seat a little. To alleviate that, for now I just used electrical take to cover the screw heads from tearing into the seat. All I can say it what a big difference it made and it’s so much more comfortable.
Added note: remove the back part of the front seat and unscrew the 2 caphead screws where the tang slides into. Put Blue Loctite on them. Slide the tang back into them and tight them enough where the backrest slides back in with a little effort. I just slid the backrest in and out until the screws were at the proper tightness without any slop. Don’t put the backrest back in until the Loctite has cured. This will alleviate the backrest from moving around side to side and makes it feel a lot more solid when you lean into it. Hope this helped.
