• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

reverse problems

A low oil level can cause intermitant shifting issues, including reverse. On our 2010, if the oil level wasn't right at the top, we'd have these issues. Make sure when checking the oil, you do it BY THE MANUAL and only after the engine is HOT, like after a ryde. You can't go by the temp. gauge, as that's only displaying the COOLANT TEMP. NOT the engine nor oil temp. just so you know. Good luck, and let us know what happens. Any codes?

What problems are you having?

won't go into reverse or out of reverse, clunking.

I put my foot on brake, use my fingers on my right hand to push the big round R button then push the paddle shifters with my left hand.

Always goes into reverse gear but with a bit of a clunk. Like Dave said check your oil.

As you can see by the broad-brush answers, if you don't tell us exactly what kind of problems, we can't help much.

clunk |kləNGk|noun1 a heavy, dull sound such as that made by thick pieces of metal strikingtogether.

Thats what I get when I start her and go to first or reverse from Neutral... :yikes:

Our drive way is on an incline and somedays I would release the brake and have the spyder roll forward and then engage first, that is the only time I get a shift without a clunk. At least hearing the clunk confirms my hearing is still OK!

Klunck check

I'd go to a dealer's or stop a Spyder on the road and see how that one does. Chances are pretty good that it'll be the same. Too bad we can't "double clutch" into first, like all the others in the old trucks use to. As deaf as I am, I sure hear what you're talking about every time, unless you're rolling down hill at the start and then shift into first, or better yet 2nd.
Good luck, but yours is probably normal

Mine clunks, even my old Goldwing clunked into first its normal behavior.

Its done on purpose to let you know its in gear :roflblack:

My only issue with Reverse.."Actuator" went out. It was an issue with the 1st of the 2011's. Ours was not in that batch, but was still an issue. Warranty covered it and the problem went away. Something I did notice was the control cable runs right in front of the oil filter. If your service is being done by others, you may check alignment or position of the bracket. On the subject of the ker-chunch, if you'll just step on the lever and not gingerly mash it, you'll elliminate alot of the grind...

Every bike i've had clunked dropping it into first, Two in particular sounded like hitting the cases with a hammer,.
The Honda 929, And now my Tri Glide. I Think of it as mechanical music.:roflblack:
