Rev Limit 2014

I have a 2014 RT Ltd. I have noticed that when going 75 mph the bike begins to buzz like it hit its rev limit. Has anyone had that issue. Is there a rev limiter on the bike?

There is no speed governor but there is a rev limiter. 8500 or thereabouts on the triple.

What you are feeling at 75 is likely belt harmonic vibrations. See SmoothSpyder.com

:agree: There is not, nor has there ever been; a "speed governor" on ANY Spyder. :banghead:
The Triple's redline is set at 7,500 rpm... I'm not sure exactly when the rev-limiter kicks it; it'll be pretty close to the redline.

I agree with the OP who suggest harmonic belt vibration. FWIW, when I was just getting into Spydering last fall I thought I experienced the dreaded belt vibration between 72 & 75 mph. That naturally moved a Smoothspyder way up on the "must have" farkle list. As I logged more miles the issue became of decreasing importance. On my 1,800 mile trip to/from Spyderfest my speeds were all over the cluster for varying reasons, including an occasional bite by the hooligan bug, and vibration just did not register in the coconut. Ergo, I don't feel a need for a Smoothspyder at this time. DO NOT interpret my comment as any criticism whatsoever of the Smoothspyder which appears to me to be a very well engineered device. I'd kind of hoped to see Jim in the vendors building at the fest to do a bit of brain picking. YMMV.

:agree: If the vibration bothers you; get the Smoothspyder...
However; it doesn't seem to bother the bike at all! ;)

cu

about the ryding smoothly up to 75 mph then holding back. They had issues with fuel pumps being noisy and wonder if they fail to perform well at high demand..:dontknow: if only vibration see all the above...

He's just not telling the truth...

Unless... he sat down with a calculator, and came with 135 mph, as the speed at which the engine reaches redline...

Nope... that ain't it. In theory; the bike could reach over 145 mph before hitting the rev limiter.

I have that same vibration at around 75 MPH as soon as I hit 80 - 85 the vibration is gone again. It has to be the belt.

Speaking of top speed, I just so happened to see how fast I could go yesterday and I only got to 101 MPH on the 2014 RT Ltd and acceleration from around 90 - 95 MPH dropped off and it took a bit to creep up to 101 MPH and the RPM was right around 5,000.

I cannot image the 2014 Triple on the RT is going too much faster than 100 MPH.

All of that information is amazing to me. Can't imagine taking my bike that fast now. But when I was younger it would have been so cool. I recently had what I think was belt slap. Had my 14 rt with the trailer and riding 2 up at 77-79 mph. It would go away when I would back off. Hadn't heard the noise before.

I spoke with cam-am tech at spyderfest

I spoke with the tech from can-am at the recent spyderfest about ECU programming. He told me the RT is tuned to deliver all it's performance below 6k and the timing really retards after that to limit it's top speeds. He stated that there is no practical speed advantage to shifting above 6K and the auto tranny really prefers shifting south of 4k.
I tried to run 2nd gear to the rev limiter in my 2015 RT and could not find one before I stopped just short of 9K.
I tried for top speed and was surprised how sleepy it got around 90mph. I figured down hill with a tail wind the 1330 RT might be good for 110 mph. Or until the windshield pops off in my face. Not sure which would happen first

Good to know about the 6k and shifting. At least your top speed results are consistent with mine. Think it has plenty of power for cruising and not really built to be a racer. I am happy with the power it has for a touring machine. Smooth and quite as well

There is plenty of power for normal cruising and two up riding. I just wanted to see what she would do. No plans on doing that again.

Hmmm. I as told that as the belt breaks in it will start making harmonic noises as certain speeds and I hear mine at around 75 to 77 MPH it goes away if I slow down or speed up. I generally ride at 73 to 75 mph on highway depending on traffic.

105 MPH

I have gotten my 2012 RTS Beast up to 105 so far. Couldn't keep going cuz I couldn't see around a turn to see if there were any BLUE LIGHTs ahead. Guess I got some work ahead of me to see what the top speed is.

I am thinking another top speed run might not be the best idea as your only going to maybe get a few miles more per hour and it might not be worth the risk. I would say if it was at a drag strip or track go for it.

You are correct that a few MPH isn't really worth it. But the rush is pretty cool for this 56 year old. If I can get a nice straight road I would like to see what the top speed for my RT is. It only takes a few seconds to get up to 100MPH. At least as long as my wife isn't onboard. She thinks 85 is fast enough.
