There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. REPLACING BATTERY ON 2013 SPYDER RT

Good evening All,

I have been looking everywhere for either documentation or a video on how to replace BATTERY ON 2013 SPYDER RT.

I know the battery is in frunk compartement, but that is about it.

In reading some of the posts, I notice that there seems to be a problem with either the battery, that does not seem to last too long and dies or is it the electrical.

Anyone aware of this situation.

Thanks

Dom.

The batteries were not necessarily the problem, short intermittent rides, not enough revs on bike, do you use a battery tender at all??

The 2013 and back did not have a real strong recharging system and batteries tended to slowly go down, try a battery tender every once in a while and see if that helps.

Replacing the battery on a 2013 RT is real simple it is located in the frunk behind a panel that comes out with two screws.

Very simple to replace, I had to replace my battery last year in the Hotel parking lot at Spyderfest with only 7,000 miles. Only issue I had was with the top retaining clip, tape it up so the clip will stay in place.

If the 2013 battery change is tough for you; the prior years' bikes will definitely teach you some new cuss words... nojoke
It's a tight fit in there, but it's MUCH easier to access it!

To remove and replace the battery located behind the front trunk.

Open the hood.
If you have a trunk liner you can either remove it or unzip the big flap in the rear.
In the top of the battery access panel. Remove the 2 screws using a T30 torx screwdriver.
Slide the panel up 1/2 inch and remove.
Using a #3 Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws attaching the cables to the battery.
Tuck the cables to the side behind the trunk out of the way.
Reinstall the screws into the battery so you don't lose the captured nuts.
Unhook the rubber bungee from the top bracket.
Flip up the top bracket, unhook from frame and remove.
Tip the top of the battery into the trunk, lift and remove.

Take the battery to a place that sells batteries and have it load tested. (Canadian Tire for example)
If it fails buy a new battery.

To reinstall is the reverse of removal.
The black ground cable will fall down and get in the way. Hold up the cable while putting the battery in place.
When reinstalling the battery access cover, place against opening 1/2 inch high and slide down into place. If you don't it will leak water into the trunk.

What I find peculiar about the electrical / battery system. My 2009 never had a problem. I purchased it used in 2012, my first year, it was stored all winter with the battery in place with no Tender, in the spring it started like a charm, this winter, I stored it in one of those fabric type shelter, again, after 4 months of brutally cold weather, it started like a champ, so go figure.

I have an 2013 RT Limited and i had to replace the battery the same year.
I replaced it by a really good EARTH-X Lithium battery.
