Replace Rear Bearing Seals Orings Wear Sleeves of Rear Axle

Hey!

Quick question regarding the rear axle assembly and the maintenance item in the manual "Bearing seals, O-rings and wear sleeves of rear axle".

I have identified the following items to be replaced for this maintenance task (I think) ... wondering if you could pass your thoughts on if I am missing anything from the diagram to be replaced, as per the manual for the 20,000km (12,000mile) service.?!

2 of #29 SPACER BRP P/N: 705 500 773

2 of #27 - SEAL (same as #26): BRP P/N: 293 200 094

1 of #28 - SPACER BRP P/N: 705 500 853

2 of #35 - ORING BRP P/N: 293 300 131

I've inspected the bearings with the assembly together and they seem ok but I will take a closer look once I get the rear wheel off.

Thanks in advance, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

When I replaced mine spacers and o-rings looked good,I replaced the bearings and dust seals. If your careful with the seals you could reuse them to, the bearings are sealed anyway.

Why don't you swap the bearings out as well ? I think 2 # 18 in your pic .:dontknow:

There are three bearing parts as I understand it, which are:
2 of #18 293350067 Ball Bearing
1 of #24 293350065 Double Row Bearing
(see updated photo attached)

I may change them if they are worn - can you recommend a good bearing puller to get them out of the wheel assembly? Are the difficult to remove?

Thanks for the note - How did you get the bearings out of the wheel assembly, a bearing puller? Difficult?

Guys for this, obviously the belt has to be taken off the sprocket - my understanding is that the belt has to be handled with extreme care - The belt should not be twisted side to side as it may damage it. It can only be moved the way it does in operation, otherwise the strands inside could be damaged. So, no side to side movements of twisting.

For those of you who dropped the swing arm without de-tensioning the belt (once the swing arm drops it takes the tension of the belt, correct?) did you have to move the belt sideways much, say more then an inch or so to get it off the sprocket teeth?:dontknow:

Appreciate the feedback thus far and more is welcome.
Thank you!

I didn't replace the spacers-- but probably not a bad idea if they're not too expensive.

As long as you're tearing down that far-- replace the bearings. They are cheap and pretty easy to replace.

I wouldn't even try to re-use the seals.

I wouldn't be concerned about the belt at all-- I did NOT handle it with kid-gloves and it's fine... slid it many inches.. probably twisted it too. They are pretty darn tough.

What you want for pulling the bearings is a blind hole puller. Auto parts places will usually let you use them for FREE.

I personally don't see any point in tearing down that far without replacing the bearings......

I didn't use a puller just a dead blow hammer and a socket that contacts the bearing surface [race] the seals are about $5.each, the double wide bearing is cheapest I could find at the dealer$22.,the other two are a common size.Same as the wheel bearing in your sled #6205. about $8. each at dealer.I did it the rear shock way and found the belt was good after re-install[align&tension].With the shock mount undone jack the frame up ,the hub gets lots of slack to slide off the belt.Keep a eye on the cables that run under the plastic cover on the swingarm so you dont damage them if you jack it up to high.
