• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Remove Left Saddle Bag

Is it possible to remove the left saddle bag without removing the rear assembly like the shop manual tells you do do?

Thanks
JT

I don't think so. Somewhere on here is a post where the guy went to put on the entertainment harness and thus took all the Tupperware off. I say this post about 2 weeks ago with full pictures. The rear area in his pictures looks like one big piece. I think his post is several pages back in the DIY area.

Thanks,

I'll see if I can find it... the manual says take it off in one big chunk. Rather than do that I'll jack the rear up and see if I can repair the damage in situ.

All one piece

Sorry it is all one piece - bags and trunk and takes two people to lift it off the back. We did it when we installed CB.

He mentioned, "repairing damage"...

 What happened?

A PLC demo unit and a Variac dropped off the shelf and landed on the open door. It was too much stress for one of the mounting points for the door hinge. Not a whole lot of material where the hinge screws to the body. I did go to Spyder Palooza with a broken door but just didn't use that one. Now I'm trying to fix it.

BTW, your both right I also put a Tricled American Flag that followed me home from Spyder Palooza on the tail feathers so while I had that apart I thought I'd try and fix the hinge.

Yea, I was on the other side of the shelf unit pushing on a box to make it fit :opps::opps::opps:

Roger, did you take it off by yourself?

JT

I can answer that because I did it. The answer is 'Yes'. Just make sure you'vedisconnected everything before you do it. There will be a point where it'll be very difficult to put it back in place if you find you've forgotten to disconnect a wiring harness or something.

This is my thread from April of 2010: http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?18347-CB-Installation-(Graphic-Pictures-WARNING!)

I did have help in reinstalling it. When you're behind it with your arms full & back urging you to finsh it up, you really need a set of eyes on the front side telling you how to position it.

Mark! That was the thread I was pointing John to I just could not find it.

Thanks! I have bookmarked it for the future!

Mark,

Thanks for the link that helps a lot. And that looks like the explosion of parts when I put the CB in the Goldwing.

I installed the CB on my GL1800A Goldwing too, but this was much more work. The only reason I attempted it was because back when I bought a new GL1500 Goldwing in 1990, I had it similarly torn down installing Kury lightbars and trailer hitch and so forth, with only about 1000 miles on the odo. My brother, who is a gifted mechanic, although he is not one who makes a living turning wrenches, assisted me back then. Having gone through that experience, I thought I could do this, which I found I was right.

As I went through the process, I kept thinking that I'd eventually get to a place where I would read the next instruction & think, "No, I can't do that", and then back out and let my dealer do it. I never got to that point. Now, I had read all of the instructions before starting, but you know how it is, until you're elbows-deep into it, you don't really appreciate the instructions as much as you did when first reading through them. The things you tried to imagine are now staring you in the face & you fully understand now, or at least you hope you do.

I hate the junky CB on the Spyder & I never carry a passenger to use the intercom, so it could be argued it was both a waste of time and money. My brothers both have CB's on their bikes and I always have since I started riding in 1989. I love being able to talk to those with which I am riding. I guess I am concluding that I'm glad I did it and have it.

The next question is if the new RT will offer anything better...

For now I had to put everything back and get ready to ride to the Spyder Palooza meet and eat tonight. I hope I can get time before KY to fix it proper.

Thanks
JT
