Remotely turn off power to Ipod

When I use the communication system and have the Ipod plugged in (all the time) it is nasty if the phone rings since the music cuts in and out in the back ground. Any one know how which wire that runs from the radio to the Ipod would need to be cut so it affectively cuts out the Ipod?

Sounds like a programming issue and not a wiring issue. Either way, I don't think there is anything you can do about it. If your music keeps cutting in and out, it sounds like you have your VOX improperly set, or else you are wearing an open helmet where wind noise is affecting your VOX. Could also be a connection issue at a plug-in connector somewhere...usually the helmet. Can you just mute the iPod and still use the phone?

That is the problem, if I mute or lower the volume for the IPod it takes the phone volume down with it. Not all the way but low enough that when driving I cannot hear. I have played with the Vox till the cows come home and it improves it but does eliminate the music from popping back on between words/phrases when talking. The supply cable to the radio has only 6 wires > BR,OR,BK,BU/GN/WH. I would think I could wire in a relay that would break a wire to take the Ipod out while driving.

I have bought two different gadgets that allow remote control of the Ipod but they both cause the Ipod to disappear from the radio screen readout and change it back to Aux.

I have the J&M high end headset with fantastic noise canceling qualities and I use a full face helmet so it is not wind noise.

Some one out there must have worked out a better solution?

If you shut the iPod off, the screen will revert to AUX. What you seem to be trying to do is to interrupt the output of the iPod. That may be possible, by tapping into the rear trunk socket wiring, but it could it damage the iPod (?). Some devices are damaged if they have no output to drive.

Thanks Roger, I was thinking of a relay(s), I have some small 12volt ones that would work perfectly. I guess cutting the audio is the only choice since I don't think Ipod shuts down instantly if the ignition is turned off.

Since you reference VOX and communication system, I presume you can try the following settings (before going to the trouble of setting up relays):

VOX -- hold the down button; this will turn VOX completely off
Under audio settings Headset Mode -- set this to MUTE (this should cut the music when on communication interrupt).

So If I put the head set to mute it will mute music while speaking on the mike?

Turning VOX all the way off stops "voice activiation" for the intercom system -- not sure how it will affect a phone.

Putting the headset to mute is exactly what you want to cause the music to stop playing while you are talking ... at least that is the way it works with the CB.

I "re-set" my iPhone ringer setting to a lower volume for the ringer before I plug it into the bike. Seems to work & might be worth a try!
