• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

relays, always carry a spare!

Saw this on another board....

it's made by BWD Automotive. Numbers on the end of the box are: V08074 R3110Z 41-5100.

Advanced Auto has this item and apparently it's for Hondas yet it matches ours exactly??

Those are generic automotive relays, same specs as the Duralast relays I believe. http://www.bwdbrand.com/web_app/catalog/bwd_bgBulk.aspx I tried to include their part info but the link just brings up the part search page. Type R3110 or R3110Z in the search box and you'll see its used as a horn relay in many models and years of GM cars and trucks.

EDIT: I tried sending a message to them to request the datasheet on the R3110 relays but I keep getting rebuffed by their server. :dontknow:

Generic, but they work perfectly for us? Also, is Advanced Auto the best place to get these?

Thanks for the info, I'll see what I can find... maybe Kragen has them.

Got one from Kragen today. Stopped at NAPA before Kragen. They had one, not a Duralast. Told him I'd take it, how much??? $28.95:gaah:!!! Told him I could get one from AutoZone for $8.95, thanked him, and walked out. He had bad breath anyway! Then I stopped at Kragen, theirs was $11.95. Told him what NAPA wanted and what AutoZone wanted. He discounted it to equal AutoZone's price. So, my question for anyone who has the info...why a $20 difference in price? I didn't notice any gold on the one from NAPA.

When I went to AutoZone they were out of the Duralast relay but that was several weeks ago and he said they would be getting more in stock so I'll check back again soon.

Generic meaning they fit a wide range of GM cars and trucks through a number of model years and they are made by more than one relay manufacturer. They aren't specific to any one vehicle, model year or manufacturer.

NO MAGIC NEON, with your vast Spyder electrical systems knowledge, would you please produce a solid-state replacement for the high failure rate mechanical relays? I smell another big selling item for you!

:dontknow: I'm not convinced that we've proven these relays have a high failure rate. Sometimes the problem is that the relays came loose, not that they've failed. (knock on wood) I've never had a relay failure nor my wife and together we have almost 35,000 miles on our Spyders ridden almost daily, in all weather.

Still, if Magic Man can make find or design something for this, that would be good too.

:agree: Seating seems to be the main issue. Like fuses, though, a spare is just good planning. Hard to find them in the middle of some remote roadway.

Where can I get the spare relays? I did a search on the Tyco site and there's nothing remotely close to me. Is this something most Auto Parts stores would carry?

Seems like the common one is the
Duralast
19271
41-5100

If the parts store sells another brand they should be able to cross-reference. Prices range from $28.95 at NAPA to $8.95 at Checkers (San Diego area).

From another Spyder owner:

MasterPro Ignition part BWD REF: R3110 (SMP REF: RY-232) is exactly the same as the relay in our Spyder. This relay can be purchased at Murray’s. We compared the relay in the Spyder with the BWD: R3110. They are identical…including the schematic drawing, as well as the amperage at each terminal/prong.

Rodger at NordRide in Mount Morris, MI says the OEM relay we got at Murray’s is good. He also said that BRP sells this part for about $10.00. Now whether this price is to the dealers or the consumer, I don’t know. With that said, Murray’s sells it for around $9.00.
