• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

anything you like here in the US. But for the investment and the difference go with the best...whatever the best is in your area...:thumbup: here it is 91....
 
I think the 1330 calls for 87 minimun. I dont have one, but I am pretty sure about that. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. You also have to watch for the high octane. Here it is 93, it does not sell that well and it sits in the tanks and then you get the separation of the ethanol. I just had a bad tank of 93 about 2 weeks ago.

Use premium unleaded gasoline with

replaced 91 with 93.

Noticed a difference right away. Idle rpms dropped from 900 to 800 and the engine sounds like its purring! Will try the 100 next. :)

I use 90 octane with no ethanol, runs great!!! If you are using gas with ethanol you might want to add some Stabil for ethanol, or a similar product to make sure the ethanol doesn't screw up the fuel system.
 
87 is giving me no problems

My 2014 RTL has 11,000 miles and has had 87 octane from day 1, never had a problem.
My wife's 2011 RTL is running the same, over 17,000 and no problem.

The short of it.

We have a choice of 87, 88, and 90 octane. No ethanol in our gas.

Have tried all flavors in my five :spyder2:'s. They all seem to run better on the 90 octane.

Sorry but no, it requires 91 minimum. Just read the emission and information label under your seat (under the left lateral panel on the F3) where it is all spelled out for you. Owners manual does too but who reads those anymore....

If you got bad premium gas, you need to use a better station. In my neck of the woods, premium does not sell the volume that regular does but they do sell enough to get deliveries of it along with every truck. Premium does tend to sell better in the better parts of town where more performance cars are located.

The bike is "smart" enough to burn whatever you put in it. Put the best offered at the pump you stop at. When it's closer to storage time, then it's time to search out some ethanol-free fuel to avoid phase separation during storage. My last tank of the season in any "seasonal" toy is ethanol free with a bit of marine stabil (the green stuff) mixed in. Then the first tank of the season gets a bit of Seafoam mixed in. Works every time for everything I own. In the end though, FRESH fuel is key with anything, all the time. No need for additives during riding season. Just burn it up and let your bike sort it out.

91 Recommended, Not Required

Owners manual says the recommended fuel is 91 minimum (for optimum performance), at least according to my F3's manual (but who reads those anymore). It doesn't say it's a requirement. Huge difference... The owner's manual says the minimum octane rating is 87 (R+M)/2. That's the requirement in the owner's manual. 4,500 miles so far on the F3 using 87 octane with no issues. It's plenty responsive for my needs. My wife's 2011 RTL is pushing 28K miles of using the regular stuff. I've had the same scenario with my last motorcycle (BMW K1600 GTL) and last two cars, where 91 octane was recommended. 200,000 miles or so, combined, on the regular gas, and counting. When the BMW hit 125 mph (and was still climbing), I wasn't thinking I was missing anything because I wasn't running 91 octane. Sure, it's only a buck or so cost difference at each fill up. But over time, it adds up. I figure I'd have spent an additional nearly $2000 to run the four vehicles on the premium gas. If I had to, I would. But since it's not required, I prefer that the nearly $2K has stayed in my bank account. That said, like motor oil and helmets (or not), go with what makes you comfortable. No wrong answer as long as you meet the minimum requirements. YMMV
