• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

red lights?

Pull up to a red light in Texas. It doesn't change. You can see the road is all carved up for sensors you Spyder doesn't seem to be able to trip. I have always been told it was OK to look both ways and proceed...

WRONG.

Looking at the TX DPS site I saw this little nugget:

No, there are no provisions in Texas law that will allow any non-emergency vehicle to bypass a red light. You will need to turn or change lanes legally when safe then find another route. As stated in Texas Transportation Code (TRC) 544.0075 certain traffic-actuated electric traffic-control signals are required to be capable of registering the presence of a motorcycle.
Texas Transportation Code

SERIOUSLY?

(Not in TX but) I've had my motorcycles fail to trip the sensors but never the Spyder. You can try calling the jurisdiction responsible for traffic controls and bug them enough times they'll send someone to recalibrate the sensor.

BTW does one of those magnet devices trip the sensors in TX?

I would wait until there is no traffic or it is safe to turn and move on. The alternative (camping at the corner until fixed) just does not work for me.

Another alternative is to make a legal right turn, when safe and then around. I would call the local sheriff about the proceed with caution thru a red light.

i almost got rear ended the other day in my car because of the stupid traffic cameras. i was driving down northern blvd doing about 35 mph and i could see the count down sign that tells you the light is going to change and it was at 2 seconds. i have gotten a ticket at this light before by the camera so i hit the brakes not to go through it. well the person behind me locked in their brakes and must of missed my rear end by 1 inch. he decided to yell at me and all i could say is sorry. i should of never hit the brakes and just went through it. i wonder how many rear end collisions are caused by the stupid cameras

Personally the person following you was not leaving enough space.since getting the spyderlo I have not had a issue with lights other than stupid people running them

You mean the yellow caution light on a traffic signal doesn't mean, "Punch it!"? I had no idea.

Contact your state rep and ask him to draft legislation that copies the Georgia statute that was passed just this year to allow drivers of motorcycles to proceed with caution if the vehicle doesn't trigger the light.

Look, if I am sitting at a red light that will not change for my spyder, and there is no one coming or going, that means there is no law enforcement to argue the point either. If they don't see it, it did not happen.

ON the other hand, if there is traffic, I will not run the light and do as the ordinance requires, turn and find another way. There is a light near my house that will not register either of our bikes. We just do not use that left turn lane.

Hi wiredgeorge,

Re: Pull up to a red light in Texas.

In Oregon you have to wait for three red light cycles then you can proceed but without any right of way, you must yield to all other traffic.

Not the best, but one solution.

Dead red law in NV

Here, the law passed last year is after 2 cycles, treat is if it were a 4 way stop. Proceed with caution. An easier way is to zip tie a speaker magnet to the bottom of the bike. The sensors trip with steel, or, a magnet. Go to any yard sale, buy a broken clock radio for a dollar. Remove speaker, zip tie underneath. Sensors trip, life is good! Joe
places like cycle gear sell a similar device for more money. I took one apart and found a speaker magnet!

SC law says after 2min. motorcycles can treet the light as a stop sign and proceed with caution when safe.

Red Light

There are magnets that you can buy, that mount to your bike that will trigger the traffic lights.
