• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can anyone tell me about the recalls on a 2008 se5 rs--parking break and dps and if there is anything else I should know about? Also should the spyder squeal when it is being push/rolled--anyone have that problem?

Contact your dealer and have them look at the VIN to see if they have been done.

The Squealing is common. I've got over 12k on mine and now and then get a squeal as I push it forward or back into my garage.

The parking brake is not a recall, it is a warranty campaign, applicable only to certain serial numbers. I don't actually think any of the SE5s, which were later, are affected, but I could be wrong. The only recall would be for the DPS. There were two recalls, actually, but I'm not sure they still do the software upgrade with the installation of new DPS units on Spyders that have never had the first recall performed. If they do perform the software recall (commonly called Update #1), make sure they do the engine performance update (Update #2) complete with evap canister vent hose extension. There are additional warranty bulletins and service bulletins that may apply, such as the decreased belt tension. or the drive sprocket bolt retorque at 6,000 miles. Your dealer can look up your VIN# and see if anything generic applies. Other things apply only if you are having problems.

The brake squeal is common. Use the brakes hard several times from 45-50 mph, letting them cool between stops, and it may go away. Clean brake disks help. There are a couple of service bulletins that address this (and now 3rd generation brake pads), but you may have to pay for the cure.

There was also a recall on a ground cable. I had it done with one of my service oil changes. I think it was to solve a shifting issue. (mine ius an SE5)

brakes and DPS recall

I had the DPS reprogram done because the replacement DPS would be 2 or 3 months down the road. 4 people ahead of me. They tried to fix the parking brake squeal but it came back in about 2 days. They did charge me for the drive belt adjustment, it was too tight but bike had almost 2xxx miles by then. They said nothing else about recalls.

After 13000 miles of on and off squealing, and trying all kinds of temporary fixes:gaah:
I went with the 3 Gen. brakes, so far 650 MILES and all is quiet:pray:

Having an SM5, I had forgotten about that one. Thanks for the reminder on the ground jumper for the coil and oil cooler. I think it was a warranty campaign, though, and not a recall, but I'm not sure since I was not included.

welcome

The big thing is to take it to a dealer and have them connect it to BUDS as well. It is a great thing to be informed about the possible recalls and updates, but BUDS should give a printout showing everything that has been done to that Spyder at any shop. You should be able to ask the dealer to discuss, and explain, that printout to you as well.
