• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear trunk gas shock

In a previous post it was pointed out that our strut is a one of a Kind creation for RT trunk use only. In the grand scheme of things that makes the trunk lid strut infinitesimal when compared to the uses your SUV hood struts can be used for and the volume that are manufactured.Economics of scale will get you every time.

It hasn't been proven that a reliable substitute isn't out there, so I'm still looking. At my age what else do I have to do? Anyway, Finless came up with a way that will work, if I decide I can't find a replacement. And, supply and demand used to determine prices until the government got involved, and you can play that game if you want to. I don't mind paying a fair price, but do draw the line at times. Other times I'll just do without.

For about $65.00 total you get the One made for the Spyder, no jerry riggin and no problem with how it works, you spent in the area of 30,000 for the Spyder so in the grand scheme of things 65.00 is NADA go with the matching shock from BRP.

With the second shock will the lid stay up with a bag on the rack? (8 - 10 lbs) :dontknow:

Here Mike... so you can see what it looks like...

Also the LBS force is not near as strong as usual shocks... You get one too strong and your going to break the plastic where the "ball" is mounted on the trunk lid..

I took a frame from my video showing the custom end...

This is pressed on not screwed on. The tube of the shock is then flanged closed around the custom end!
This is not something you can just add to an off the shelf shock! Trust me I looked at trying to do it.
You will destroy the shock taking the custom end off! Let alone try to put it on a off the shelf shock...

I hope Joe Meyer can get his money back!

I am with Joe on this. You have put more than $65 working this already ( not to mention all the time the rest of the guys put in trying to help you save $20-30) Sheesh cough it up, you cant't take it with you. Sounds to me like your getting run over by the Elephants while worrying about the Piss Ants.

One more thing to add....

For those that want to buy the BRP shock and add it to the other side.....

It does not come with the bolt on ball that you need for the trunk lid.
It also does not come with the bushing and the bolt/nut for the bottom.

So you will have to buy those parts as well.

Cruzr Joe... maybe since you did this, you can give everyone the parts you ordered?

Is there already an attachment point on the other side for the strut?

Ok thanks. Gonna order the parts now. My 1 strut is already shot.

If you are just replacing the shock then you don't need all the extra parts. also those were the #s for a 2015 RTL but they should be the same no matter what year RT.

I was about to order the one strut. But while I am at it I was going to add one to the other side. I also wish it would go up a couple more inches too.

The hinge itself stops you from going higher... If you tried to trim the plastic to go higher, the shock would then restrict you as it also has a maximum draw length.

Ahh, ok. I see the issue then. You would almost need a separate bracket to get it to go higher. And prob not reasonable venture either.
