Rear tire??

That was the last replacement tire on our 2008 SE5. The price is good and it also wears well. I will do my first replacement on the 2010 RT with a BF Goodrich G-Force. I think it will wear even better than the one you're looking at, for my driving style.

at 10000 mi i replaced the oem with Kumho Ecsta ast... alot of tread in the middle where most of the wear was on the oem... so far I like it fine. what do you like on the falken over the ast?

rear tire...

My Kumho is scheduled to arrive this evening... it was a coin toss between the Kumho and the Falken 512. I looked at the Falken 912 but didn't like the idea that it was an asymetrical tread design. To my way of thinking, a single rear tire should have a symetrical tread pattern. :spyder:

I wanted the best of both worlds, high mileage and good grip. Opted for a Michelin HydroEdge 215/60-15 and am a very Happy Camper. No Nanny problems and I run it at 18 PSI. It fits just fine. Tires are like oil. Everyone has their favorite. I just like a tire that is made to get 90,000 miles by the manufacturer. Coupled with Michelins quality.

Just my $ 0.02

I think that's the way to go. Michelin makes great tires. Hopefully you'll be able to get a lot of miles out of it. Have you noticed any difference between it and the stock tire that came on your Spyder?

It seems to stick a bit longer before it slips a bit in hard cornering. Overall I like it better than the OEM. I really can't even notice the difference in width, it hangs in corners very well. But my opinion is subjective to my wants and therefor is only self serving. Would I recommend the tire/size combination to others? Yes, it has been safe in all applications I have had it in.

I hope to get more than 12500 miles on the Falken. They wear well on my car so I am hoping for the same on the Spyder.

I see where you folks replace your rear tire with several different brands and all seem to do well. I have an RT. Who/where do you get your rear tires changed. I won't need one for a while and I doubt my dealer carries other than BRP recommended brands.

I am not sure I would let my local tire dealer try to change out the rear tire....they do good work on autos and replaced my Motor Trike tires, but getting a RT tire off may not be their cup of tea. I have not looked closely at what is involved in removing the rear. Your comments, please. Thanks.

I have close to 10K on my BFG gForce Sport and it still looks new to me.

I have 11,000 on the original and it is about gone. I was going to try and get through the year with it but thinking I'm not going to make it.

Same here, 13,500 miles on my BF Goodrich G-Force Sport, and still looks almost as good as the day I installed it. It handles very good in the rain (which we've been having buckets of around here lately). Note that the G-Force and the G-Force Sport are two different tires, by the way, the sport is rated for 139 MPH. I keep trying to get the :spyder2: to go that fast but it keeps falling short. LOL!!!

That tire only has a speed rating for 118 mph. Wouldn't work for me as my average speed is about a buck and a quarter.:D

I guess I'll weigh in too. This isn't the first thread on this issue, and each time it is discussed people state what tire they are switching to, but never come back at a later time and say mileage wise how well their switch did. I recall, with pictures, showing the tread on my original tires. It was 15,000 when I had them replaced with OEM tires again. I honestly think I could have gotten another couple of thousand miles out of the originals. However, I was planning on going to spyderfest and didn't want that to be an issue.

The point I'm trying to make is that it would be really good if those of you would at some later date state just how many miles you got out of the tires you switched to. It would give many of us a comparison.

Yes

I've gotten over 21,000 miles on my OEM back tire BUT it is slick about 4" wide in the middle of the tire(yes I'm getting ready to change it) But my wife's Spyder has MORE than 21,000 miles and it still has tread all the way across the tire.

George, I ride a 2010 base RT. I bought a Kumho Ecsta from a local tire dealer. I pulled the rear wheel myself which is not a bad job if you remove the lower shock mounting bolt so the swing arm can drop low enough to remove the belt. With the wheel off, I took it to an independent motorcycle shop to have the tire mounted and balanced. With the tire mounted, I replaced the wheel and the belt without having to readjust the belt since nothing had changed to change the belt tension. Probably, any shop which can mount motorcycle tires can mount a Spyder tire. Total cost of replacing rear tire was $111.00 vs. $418.00 which the dealer charged me to replace the rear tire with an OEM rear.
