• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

rear tire valve stem

I agree that it's difficult to reach on the pulley side but I bet some product liability lawyer suggested it since there's a hot exhaust on the other side. It was obviously intentional.

I think that is actually a very valid question. Maybe someone with some technical expertise could chime in. Do these things extend the existing valve, or replace it? If they just extend it, it seems to me the added weight and stress from centrifugal force could be a concern. :dontknow:

Just throwing this out, how about having the tire refilled with Nitrogen? Thats supposed to keep it's pressure better, reduce moisture, etc. In short less maintainance.

I am not sure I would keep it on. I would just use it when I needed to put air in the tire. Would look kinda silly otherwise MHO
 
I guess now is as good a time as any to report on Ride-On tire sealer. I had some put in all the tires in late January. Had the fronts at 20, rear at 30. I checked them yesterday. No air loss! The product is performing as advertised.

Did you use 9 0z. in each front tire and 13 oz. in the rear as was mentioned in a previous thread? Also, did you jack the bike up?

None of the above. I used the automotive formula because of the tires of the Spyder. I used the severe amount as recommended on the chart (11 oz front, 16 oz rear) because of the numerous castus thorns laying around in the desert. I bought 3 containers. I was lucky enough to have a distributor in San Diego and went to his house to get the Ride-On. The best of all that is that he installed it for free. No jack is necessary. Just remove the valve stim core, let the air out, fill the right amount, clean the inside of the valve stem, screw in the core, and air up. Go riding a few miles to distribute it inside the tires. You will experience a few minutes of "unbalanced tires", but no fear, it will smooth out. If you go to the Ride-On site and call their free number, they will provide you with the phone number of a distributor nearest you. Great service.

Interesting that you comment about the cactus thorns. Have you actually had a cactus spine penetrate a tire?

I ride frequently in the desert near my Canebrake place (on S-2, Eastern San Diego County) on both my Spyder, on dirt roads in Canebrake, and of course on & off road on my TWTrike conversions (profile photo). I used to have to run slime in bicycle tires out there, but the thicker tires of my trikes seem to be enough to ward off punctures by spines.

I do have slime in my TWTrikes tires, as insurance, but I haven't worried about the heavy tires on the Spyder getting punctured by cactus. Maybe I should be. Especially if you have experienced that problem.

I have not experienced that problem, but I suspect that a good-sized goathead just might do it. The Ride-On is just an insurance against a road side disabling flat. If it saves me once, it's worth it. I like the flexibility of the Spyder in being able to pull off unto a rutted trail, like the one at Carrizo Badlands and Canyon Sin Nombre on S2 out of Ocotillo. With all the cactus around there, we just feel more assured of completing our ride. And when pulling off the highway just because we can, we worry less about tire failure. In summary, just more peace of mind.

i have nitro in my truck tires and they are SUPPOSED to not leak down due to temp change unless u have an actual leak....i dont have a leak but a few times when the temp dropped real fast my low pressure light came on and had to take it to shop to get more nitro....no leak..so im not gonna waste my time putting nitro in my spyder.

I have had my Spyder on that exact same spot (Canyon Sin Nombre Overlook). I did hit bottom on a rock going in so I was more watchful riding back out to S-2. It would have been great if we had happened to have been there at the same time. :yes:

I will be trailering my Spyder out to my place in Canebrake (on S-2) every once in awhile this summer. We ought to get together for a ride. I try to get out there for about a week at a time, each month, during the summer. On August First I will be hosting my second annual; Hotter'N Hell Hamburger Happening, barbecue out there.

Last summer I rode from there (Canebrake) to meet Lamonster in Santa Ysable and we rode to the top of Mt Palomar and back to Julian, where we each headed off to our starting points (after pie and coffee). Most of my Spyder rides from Canebrake have just been to El Centro or Borrego Springs for one reason or another.

But if you're working on weekdays, then that just leaves Saturday the 25. That would still be OK, but we have a community potluck early that Saturday evening, so I wouldn't want to do a real long ride.

My schedule is rather difficult. I am a fully retired, busy doing as little as I can of anything meanful, person. We could hook up next week, but if you usually bring the Spyder for a longer time at a later date, we could do it then. Would maybe be easier for you.

I'm in the same "boat" as you. Retired and busier than ever, but it's not "work".

If you can do a ride next week it would be OK for me. It isn't that much extra effort on my part to trailer the Spyder down to my desert place. It just means I have to stay close to the 55mph limit (like 65mph) on the freeway, and in the right two lanes, so it takes me about ten minutes longer going and coming from home (Orange County) and of course uses more gas in my truck.

Later in the season it's going to be hotter down there, although I do plan to do some summer riding.

Sometimes I will ride from Canebrake to Borrego Springs or to El Centro for Mexican lunch and back (Mex lunch makes a good excuse for a ride). Both of these rides are about 100 miles round trip so they are not big rides. Obviously your ride would be a lot longer coming from Jacumba to start with.

If we met at my place in Canebrake you can check oiut one of my TWTrikes that I keep there.

Whatever, look at your situation and let me know.
