Rear Tire Suggetions 2015 RT Need Help

I am getting about 10-12K on OEM Tire for my 2015 RT

I do a substantial amount of long tours. In May I did a 10K tour and essentially wore out the rear tire on that trip. I would suspect I am going to need another tire before the season is out in MA, say November.

With 56K on my Spyder, I am seriously considering a different rear tire that will give me good wet weather performance. some aggressive riding at times.

Most of my travels involve back roads for picture taking plus my destinations are off the beaten path so to speak

I have found the following recommendations

Vredestein 205/60R15
Yokohama S Drive 205/55r15
General Actimax RT43 215/60R15
Yokohama Avid Envigor 205/65R15

It is my understanding the OEM are 2 ply tires versus the cars being 4 ply. Don't have a clue what that difference is just made a note of it along the way.

Do these tires last substantially more mileage than stock OEM ?

What tire pressure would one use on the above ?

And then the magic question, since most dealers won't do anything but the OEM, where within say 200 miles of Middle Massachusetts will install the new sneakers?

If you do a search you can find enough information on auto rear tires to make a book thicker than an unabridged dictionary. FWIW, I am on my second Altimax after getting just short of 20K on the first one.

I recommend the Vredestein Quatrac 5 in the size you stated …. as the best all-around tire ……Quite a few folks here are now using it, but mileage reports are just starting to be posted …… That Altimax would be in a close second and should give better mileage … a few folks are using the Hankook Optimo which is a harder compound than either stated above and could provide 50,000 mi. ( I'm guessing on that number ) but I have no idea how the Optimo performs in the wet …… good luck …. As far as PSI goes any Auto tire should be at 17-18 psi ( rear ) for best performance ….. mike hyea:

Take your pick of anyone that you mentioned, they'll all out preform OEM for millage. Like BK911 says 17-18 psi. I run 17-18 all the way around (front/rear). Let us know what you choose and then report back on your results.

I've got the Yokohama you mentioned on our 2014 RT Limited. It now has 5600 miles and I have yet to break traction with some pretty aggressive riding. At that mileage, it hardly looks worn at all. The added bonus is the speedometer is almost 100% perfect match to GPS speeds with the 205/65 size.

I'm using the Altimax, 19,000 miles so far. the 215/60R15 size also puts the speedo even with the GPS.

I run the Altimax and typically get 20,000 miles out of them. Are you anywhere near Netzley Tire in NY? They install Spyder tires

During our Coast to Coast trip this summer we stopped at Lamonsters Garage and had him change out my Hankook Optimo that had 40,000 miles on it. when it was new it did very well in our Oregon rain, after about 30,000 miles not so much, I should have changed it out about 25K. I do pull a trailer about 70% of our riding and that increases the wear I'm sure.

Mike, they had 40,000 miles on it, I think that’s pretty darn good.

Willie - this is a pic of a Kumho on my 15 RT after 20,000 miles. I got another 3,500 miles before changing it out and trying some Generals on the RT and wifes F3T. She only got 21,000 on her General, and I have 15,500 on my General on the RT and will easily get 20,000 mi. The General is the 215/60 profile and both it and the Kumhos have rolled well and balanced with less weights than the OEM Kendas which we got 12,500 miles out of.

The narrower/slightly taller General will correct the Speedo error to about 1 MPH at 65.. The narrower General will also hydroplane slightly less due to the narrower width if wear is equal. All these wide back tires on the back of the light Spyders will hydroplane at 55 and up in standing water..especially when wore down. JMHO

Have the General and love it. Experienced an immediate improvement in ride and handling. Run 20 pounds all around. Speed matches the GPS. 7,000 miles and showing no wear :2thumbs:

I am a newbie to the Spyder RT after years of bike riding. I just acquired a very nice 2011 Spyder RT and I love it. I need a rear tire. Do I understand correctly that the Vredestein Qudrac 5 205/60 R15 is a good replacement for the specified 225/50 R15 and that Nanny will be happy? Probably a simple question that has already been answered in what I have been reading but I would like a little reassurance. Thanks. ( I think I may have posted this earlier in the wrong place. Oh well, I'm still trying to find out how this works)

Yes...you understand correctly...
BlueKnight911 and others are big advocates for the Vredestein Quadtrac 5 in 205/60/15.
But as you can see, the General Altimax is very popular, as well as the Kumho Ecsta and Yokohama S Drive...
