• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

rear shock issue

While working on tail light I noticed that the spring on the rear shock is rubbing the shock body. Is this normal? If not any ideas other than have it replaced under warranty. BTW Spyder is a 2014 ST with just over 600 mi.

Not good..!!

:agree: can you look at the shaft from different angles to if it is bent..?? :dontknow:

Now Im Curious

I've had a knocking noise on my 14 RTL for some time and have not been able to find it. Sounds like coming from the right side rear of the bike. Possible it could be the shock? :dontknow:

I do not think this is "out of the ordinary" at all. What you have is a low quality OEM shock. It is not perfect but it gets the job done at the end of the day. I have seen this many times on Snowmobiles. The coil spring rubs the shock body. A higher quality shock will not do this. My Elka on the back of my ST no rubbing. Here is a pick of my OEM rear shock with about 5000 miles on it. I have about 10,000 now on the Elka and have not seen this.

The shock is not perfectly centered in the coil and has very little clearance on this side.

900Dave that is just what my shock looks like. There is not very much clearance at all. I will ask the guys to look at it when I take it in for it's service.
Thanks Allen

Are you guys bottoming out a lot? I have close to 15k on my 12' RS rear shock and a good friend is close to 20k on his and the spring has never touched the shock body on either.

never bottomed out. nothing looks bent. it just looks as if the spring is not held in the center of the shock.

I may have been bottoming out. My wife is on the back most of the time. The OEM shock is non adjustable. This is why I also put an Elka on the rear so I could adjust for 2 up riding and full saddle bags.
