• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Rear Brake pads

Ok, I'm back.

Well, well, well. This is encouraging news! EBC makes this brake pad in both the Semi-Sintered 'V' series and the Sintered 'HH' Series.

I have no personal experience with the HH series as it was developed for high performance motorcycles and is not available for the pre-2013 model Spyder pads. But BRP has stepped up their braking system with the Brembo's and it has opened another door for brake pad choices.

The V series are designed for touring and this compound gives the rider more 'Feel'. Hard to describe but 2 wheel riders know exactly what I mean. Braking on 2 wheels has to be managed very carefully and the rider needs to monitor several 'Inputs' to brake effectively. One of which is the 'Feel' from the brake peddle and lever.

But with the Spyder, feel is not nearly as important to the rider as on 2 wheels. The HH series will last longer and stop better. The unknowns (at least to me) are #1 noise potential, #2 dust production and #3 overall rider satisfaction with the product.

So, I am looking for a test pilot or 2 so that we can get some user feedback on this product. I do not have a 2013/14 Spyder so I will need a Spyderlover or 2 to supply me with data on this product.

I will supply you with a set of these pads at a price below my cost. But I am only interested in a rider who will;
1- Install these right away
2- Ride them right away
3- Give them a good workout
4- Supply comprehensive and honest feedback

Have never tested this out but my theory is that the braking system is biased towards the rear wheel. In other words, the rear brake is applied first and released last. This would tend to stabilize the Spyder when stopping and might explain why the rear wears so quickly.

:agree: Also the diameter of the disk should be larger and the caliber should have at least two pistons, due to the size and weight of the rear tire, rim, and drive sprocket. That's IMHO.

I was going to be replacing mine anyway because of the squeal, but I won't be near my shop to be able to do the work for at least a couple of weeks.

You also have twice the braking surface on the front brakes because you have two separate caliper systems .......so you will only get half the wear ......IMHO....Mikeguyver :thumbup::thumbup:
 
ENGINE BRAKING

You need to do more engine braking and less foot braking.....
:gaah:.......Along, long time ago, someone a lot smarter than me said ....."would you rather pay for brake pads .........or a new clutch or transmission " . I use my brakes ...JMHO Mikeguyver :thumbup:
 
Rear vs Front Brake Wear

As the front brakes generally do 70% or more of the overall braking on most vehicles, I find it curious that the rears are wearing out faster than the fronts.

The answer is easy, have a look at new front vs new rear pads. The rear has a fraction of the thickness because it's not supposed to be doing the bulk of the braking!
That said, why can't we have a thick rear pad that lasts for a LOOOONG time?

I do not have an OEM rear brake pad to compare. But I can say that the front and rear EBC pads have the same amount of material. I have been carrying the EBC HH pads for some time now and my customers tell me that they stop noticeably better than the OEM pads.

Those who are running them tell me that they are lasting longer than the OEM pads. EBC says they should last about twice as long as OEM pads.
