Rear air shock removal?

I'm going to be pulling the rear air shock this weekend to check where my leak is. I have to add air about every 3 days as it leaks down completely after 3 days, being riden or not. I replaced the valve and still leaks so its either in the line or the connector at the bag. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on the best way to pull the bag out?

Just looking at the parts diagram, it looks tricky. It might be easy to take the body work and other stuff off, and use the soapy water trick before disassembly.

Yeah I thought about that too. But looks like if I jack the rear up a little I may be able to reach in from the left side without taking any panels off. I also thought about maybe just disconnecting the line and taking the fitting off the top and replace both of those. But not sure if it would have enough room to do that.

I know its only mounted by a long bolt from the bottom frame and 2 smaller bolts up top. I can see the bag pretty good by just removing the left side panels.

Let all the air out, undo all the bolts and pull it out. Its pretty straight forward and not difficult.

Keep in touch

Let us know how you make out. Mine leaked the same as yours when new :banghead: but for some reason it's not leaking so bad now. I'll be tearing into it soon.

Yeah but does it need to be jacked up or can I pull it out the side? Ive got both side panels off and from the left I can see and grab the bag. Just not sure the right way to pull out.

I certainly will. Got the panels off and will dive into it in the morning. Hopefully it wont be too bad to pull out.

No, once the air is out disconnect the line from the top fitting to keep the fitting airway open. From there you should be able to work the bag out once the bolts are out.

I know when I converted my RS adding the airbag to it, everything just slid and pushed into place.
I don't remember there being anything odd or tricky. Should be pretty straightforward.

Did you remove the rear shock to make more room? Remember the RT's have alot more stuff on the rear getting in the way.

Did you wrestle that thing out of there?

No, I didn't have time. It was raining this past weekend and I needed to get it in the air to actually remove it without a huge headache. I'm planning on maybe getting it out after we get back from vacation. So for now I'm still adding air every 2 days, :gaah:
