I've always associated drop with words such as eliminate, quit, discontinue, etc. Such as... Drop out of school, dropped from the team, drop a bomb, etc. These days I see the word drop to apparently be associated with or substituted for things like introduced, debuted, included; such as... Elvis dropped a new record, McDonalds dropped a new cheap burger, etc. Kinda makes me think McDonalds discontinued their new cheap burger or Elvis is not releasing a new record.
