• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Radio issues

Just inherited my dad's RT-S and rode it home today. I have to say, I didn't realize how relaxing it is to ride compared to my Katana even though I found myself grabbing for the clutch or front brake a few times. The only problem I had was with the radio system. I tried a couple stations and the iPod, but all that came through was a buzzing noise. Anyone else have a similar problem and is there an easy fix?

The radio issue still exists, but I'm not worried about it. The bigger issue is with the iPod cutting out randomly. I figured out today that it only happens when the GPS is on. They apparently don't play well together. Has anyone else experienced this?

Well that normally does not happen. Normally when the GPS outputs sound, turn by turn directions for example, the radio will silence all the other inputs so you can hear the GPS. Now if that buzzy noise is coming from the GPS that will make the radio cut out. May be linked problems. I would be tempted to disconnect the GPS audio cable and see if this makes a difference. It is located under the tupperware on the right side, near the rear of the fuel tank. Looks like a mini stereo headphone jack. Maybe One of the RT people can explain how to get to it without tearing too much apart.

On my 2011 RTS I have NEVER had the iPod cut out. As to the radios FM reception, well it's not the best but works really well in the city.

If your iPod is cutting out it's some kind of connection issue. Make sure your poor iPod is on some kind of soft mounting and not rattling around.

ALSO, make sure the iPod is updated to the latest firmware from Apple... Earlier firmwares had all kinds of issues.

Well, finally got the time to take off some plastic and explore a little. Looks like a mouse took up residence in the radio compartment and snacked on some of the wiring for it. He didn't get through it all which is why the iPod works fine, but probably is the cause of the gps/radio problems. Now I just need to get a new wiring kit and I should be good to go.

Here's the damage. I'm weighing my options. I'm going to try and repair the bad wires in place with solder and tape it up real good. None of the wires look to be completely chewed through. If it works, great. If not, the harness I need is almost $300, and will take even more disassembly to route it through.

. $ 300.00 is pretty steep.... if you are sure that's the only area that's damaged I would consider taking out the Harness and replacing every damaged wire in the bunch .....Yes it's going to be tedious ... I wouldn't bother trying to match colors etc., use shrink wrap tubing ( check prices at Bangood .com way cheaper )....good luck........Mike

Cleaned up and reconnected all the bad spots and still have static coming through on fm. I'm beginning to believe the radio unit itself is shot since the iPod works perfectly. The power to the gps had been a growing issue, and it would not turn on now. My next move is to rip into the front console and see if there is any activity there after I fix my newest problem. I put something where it didn't belong during reassembly and my right storage door won't latch. The sky looks threatening, so tomorrow is another day.

From what I can see in your photo of the damage, I'd use a product available at most hardware stores, LIQUID TAPE. You just brush it on and it will encapsulate the wires, very tough stuff.
