Radio antennae service bulletin

My RT factory radio antennae is decorating the shoulder of a road somewhere.:gaah: While talking to my local service department to order a replacement, I was told there is a soon-to-be-released service bulletin regarding the loss of antennas. According to the parts tech, he heard about the bulletin yesterday in advance of its release to dealers. Wasn't able to get a bulletin number since its not in the network yet. Anyone hear similar???

CB Antenna

I lost my CB antenna some where north of Stillwater, MN. I turned it into my dealer, they wrote it up under warrenty. And its the same SOS...parts on order.

Mine was always coming lose so I just got in the habit of checking it regularly and making sure it was tight.:gaah:

No vandalism. The Spyder is either in my garage or in my sight if parked elsewhere. I guess it just vibrated loose. I got enough problems without this thing shedding parts going down the road

Well, Canada was once a British colony. That trait seems very British to me. :joke: Remember the Brit bike rules. If no more than one part falls off, and no oil gets on the rear tire, it was a good ride! :roflblack:

Seems like every time I check mine, which is often, it is again loose. Wonder if locktite would help and also not hinder the efficiency of it to receive a signal? Worth a try anyway I guess! Bill :gaah:

Mine left on the ride home from my 600 mile service; dealer replaced it without any fuss. I since put blue LocTite on the threads, and have ridden another 2500 miles without loosening. No notable reception issues, but since I moved after the change, don't have a good baseline for what might have been. Seems like its the same as my cars, though.

Replaced mine with the shortie but also added a star type lock washer. I don't see any reason why you couldn't add a star washer to the stock antena. The lock washer might be better than the loc tight.

My RTS's antenna kept loosening, until I put a split washer (to keep a prevailing torque on the threads after being fully seated) and some loctite on the threads. Problem solved.

I can't believe that BRP didn't release a split or lock washer for the antenna. This is fastening 101 kind of stuff. :lecturef_smilie:

there is service bltn for it. my new RT-S which I am picking up soon ... they did what ever for it on my Spyder today.

Maybe they thought we wanted to be able to wash our RT's in the automated car washes, and the removal of the antenna is required in order to give a good cleaning to the ryder? :yikes::roflblack:hyea::dontknow:

Great timing

I just found out today about the service bulletin... Hmmm... about 21/2 hours after mine fell off. Somewhere between Asheville NC and Kingsport TN. Great timing.

The real story...While unpacking, my wife Kim mentioned that her AM/FM antenna was loose. I said that I'd better check mine... as we both turned toward my RT.. "Oh :cus:" ... was expressed simultaneously... Mine was gone!! Boot and all.

I called the local dealer in Elizabethton TN. Spoke with Jason and he said, guess you didn't get the service bulletin and the lock washer supplied by BRP... "DUE TO THE FACT THAT SO MANY ANTENNAS WERE BEING LOST!!!" I said "guess not"!! He ordered me one.. wonder what that little mis-communication is going to cost... :gaah:..... Len
