Are there any of the top ranked radar detectors that are easily mounted via brackets/holders and ram mounts on Spyders, specifically an RT limited, 2016?

I've been looking into radar detectors as well. I've found that RAM makes a radar detector mount, easily found online. It uses a metal plate that is stuck onto the detector and then has high power magnets in the mount that attaches the detector to the mount. The nice thing is that it makes it pretty much universal as long as there's a flat spot on the bottom of the detector. Every RAM item I've ever used has been awesome, so I wouldn't expect any different with that product.

As for specific model, there are many good ones out there. Myself I'm partial to the Escort Passport's, I've had several and all with excellent performance. Currently have a Max II and will likely pick up a Max 360c before too long. Others to consider are Radenso Pro M, Uniden R3, and Valentine 1. They're not cheap, but keeping in mind that a speeding ticket could be a couple hundred dollars easily, plus potentially increase your insurance rates for years, I figure that if it saves me from 1 ticket I've recouped my money.

I have a radar detector on my spyder. Made a mount for the dash and the detector is held in place with heavy duty velcro. I highly recommend Escort Redline radar detector. I run it in ka band only and never have false alarms. Range is over 2 miles with cllear line of sight. Stay away from the V2. I had one and got lots of false alarms and range wasnt as good.

Have a Adaptiv TPX Radar Detector on mine.

This is Radar Detector designed for motorbikes so:

• Waterproof
• Buttons are easy to operate with gloves on
• Can be quickly removed - has a mount + wiring connector.
• Various mounts for bike bars etc available (or can use ram-mounts)
• Smaller for easier mounting
• Comes with a bright led cluster that you can mount away from the unit, so you could hide the unit somewhere if your local cops have a downer on them.
• You can also get a helmet mounted indicator/sounder though I've not bothered as the led cluster is very bright.

Works well i.e. I've not had any points/fines since fitting it;-)

Initially I had it on a ram mount but made my own custom mount - using the safety card slot as the mounting point)

Three dot thing in picture is led cluster, beside that you can just about see where the cable plugs into. Its got its dust cap in place so hard to see.

My Radar detector is on her Spyder behind me and it works thru our com's in our helmets, SLOW DOWN ! DAVE the SPEED LIMIT IS -------- She has driven for over 60 years and never has gotten any ticket my record is not as good I've had 2 tickets one when I was 18 the next one I was just having fun in my car driving to the coast. I always figured the Speed limit was posted for a reason.

Top rated water proof motorcycle radar detector. I mounted this under the Tupperware in the center above the head lights under the plastic. I found a slot that it fits nicely into. No loss in sensitivity or range and you are not able to see it at all.. This has a super bright LED circle remote alert light that I have mounted on the center handle bar brace aimed directly at my eyes. You can see it easily DAY or night.
When I'm not speeding I simply ignore the light as it sees radar signs about 3/4 mile out. When I am pushing the limits I keep an open eye for it to flash. It has never failed to detect real radar and give me very early warnings. On the interstate it sees radar up to 2 miles out at times.
Down side of mounting like this is it's on when powered by the ignition key. Not really a problem the way I use it but a state below me it's illegal to use a detector. So if that is a problem in your area, you might need a remote switch or a way to turn the detector off. I just mounted my detector on high sensitivity and the brightest setting for the LED warning light.

Same one I use

I have used this for about 6 years and I put one on each bike I own. Mine is mounted under the Tupperware on my RT and now my F3L. It has Laser Jamming options but after 6 years of use I have only jammed Laser Radar twice. Both times I wasn't speeding and the perplexed look on the officers face as he examined his device read out was priceless. I didn't put the jammer on my F3L as I mostly use a detector for protection from unintentional speeding. The remote LED warning light is super bright and can easily be seen during the day. No need for audible sounds as you really can't hear them any way at highway speeds. This detector has paid for it self many time over and it's water proof so I never have to worry about it under my Tupperware.

Radar Detectors

Here's a heads up - I was an LEO for most of my working life ....... about 15 or so years ago, Radar was being phased out ....and replaced with LAZAR devices to check speed ( waaaaay more accurate ) ....when used by the Police it was far more effective than Radar .... It only sends a signal when activated by the User ( the LEO ) .... to my knowledge there is NO Detector that can pick up the LAZAR signal ......and it's instantaneous, ON - OFF , if they get you it's all over except for catching you ....... So imho spending money on something that the police no longer use is a waste of money. ......good luck .....Mike :thumbup:

One has to ask WHY ?

We ride for the enjoyment of it, as mentioned in previous threads we will be using the back roads to our destinations and staying off the interstates as much as possible. The few times we have done interstates it has been 65 max. Life is way tooooo short to be in a hurry. I have been given a second chance on life not going to waste it.

Hi Mike, wanted to share some info on laser radar. First, the officer has to have an open window and be stationary when in use. Kind of like holding a camera with a narrow view. According to my law enforcement friend it takes training and practice. Second my detector detects Laser and has a jamming option device that flat out works every time. The laser user simply gets a blank read out. Third, is most small law enforcement towns can't afford laser radar and requires the lone small town officer to be stationary when using it. Like shooting a moving dear with a gun, it gets harder the further out the target is. My officer friend says it very hit and miss with cycles and smaller targets.
The real killer radar is the KA mobile trigger radar. The officer waits until he suspects a speeder. He can be going any speed and can radar in front and the rear with just pulling a trigger. It only last as long as he is pulling the trigger. So if you are not in line of site with even the best detector you had better slow down if you get a one second KA alert. The next trigger pull could be on you and you are instant toast. Not even close to enough reaction time to get off the gas to the brake.
What I use a detector for is coming into these smaller revenue hungry towns that write tickets for as little a 5 mph over. Those officers are under huge pressure from town board members to generate the expected revenue from their expensive investments.
Feel free to correct me if you know things different but my detector sees and jams laser radar.

p.s. all my law enforcement friends are the worst speeders I know. They often have Mustangs and muscle cars and are ALWAYS talking about the top end they can get with it.

Here's a heads up - I was an LEO for most of my working life ....... about 15 or so years ago, Radar was being phased out ....and replaced with LAZAR devices to check speed ( waaaaay more accurate ) ....when used by the Police it was far more effective than Radar .... It only sends a signal when activated by the User ( the LEO ) .... to my knowledge there is NO Detector that can pick up the LAZAR signal ......and it's instantaneous, ON - OFF , if they get you it's all over except for catching you ....... So imho spending money on something that the police no longer use is a waste of money. ......good luck .....Mike :thumbup:

.... Dennis as best I can remember Radar and Lazar are different animals ....... and as far as cops speeding !!! think of it this way - they are actually practicing for what they HAVE to do in a Patrol car to get to the scene of whatever they are sent to. Training in HIGH speed pursuit is Minimal in almost All police dept's. and that's why they have so many accidents. It isn't the best option I agree , but it sure saved my ( and civilians ) bacon many times I'm sure ....especially in Bad weather conditions ....jmho opinion ..... Mike :thumbup:

Don't know of any detectors but there is a built in speeding ticket avoidance system on the Spyder!! :thumbup:

That Laser detector & jammer is a great story Dennis, and it really made my day that it was your Law Enforcement 'friend' that told you they were so hard to work & jammable!! :roflblack:

The Laser speed detection devices used these days operate on a discrete beam of light, and yes, it does take just a tiny amount of practice & training, but they are used so widely these days because they are cheaper to buy & operate & the training is soo much quicker & easier than it is for Radar units of any type!! There's not much else used as widely in Aust these days due to this & because unless you are actually lucky enough to have the momentary pulse of laser light hit the detectors tiny sensor receptor (in which case they already know how fast you are going) then they are indetectable & they are far more accurate & easy to use!

Basically, if the operator of a Laser speed detection device can get his sights on you (sights are generally just like a telescopic gun sight or sometimes a telephoto camera sight) for a small portion of a second, then they've got a very accurate speed reading!! The most modern jobbies are wired into the vehicle to help accurately fix their location & 'speed over the ground' & so will work if it is standing still or mobile at speeds of up to about 100 mph & it really comes down to being if an operator can see you (thru a window or anything that transmits light) in his sights for a part of second then they've pretty much got you, unless your 'jammer' can absorb high intensity light & catch the tiny dot that's all it takes, & if it doesn't do that then 'jamming' it really ain't gonna work!!

People are going to do what they are going to do. I do not exceed posted by more than 5 mph. Have not had a speeding ticket in over 18 years now.

It works for me. Saving a couple minutes does not interest me. :yes:

Peter Aawen will know what he's talking about because in my experience most Aussie police have no tolerance at all for speeding, never known a country be so hot on it as there. Kiwi cops are often a bit more tolerant - but then we have worse drivers to contend with so fairs fair.

No radar detector is going to do any good if your regularly doing silly speeds, but as reminder to mind your manners they work well.

Thanks Mike. As well, many if the LEO's I know, many of whom ride, have stated that they usually don't bother bikes except the crotch rocket riders. They know the rest of us are often busy dealing with the cagers.

You might be a candidate for the speedo switch trick. Put the speedo into kph before a ride. Sixty two will show 100 on the speedo. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
