• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

As a right leg above the knee amputee, I am interested in purchasing a Spyder. However, I won't be able to use the foot break. Is there an adaption out that will allow you to change to a hand break?

Also, since gas prices are a concern to all, what kind of milage are you getting?

Thanks,

welcome Yes if you do a seach for hand brake you will find several threads regarding this subject including a step by step photo instillation by the web site administrator.

There have been a few people who have put a hand brake on their Spyder. They have generally engineered this mod themselves as no company is making a hand brake kit for the Spyder. This is the thread where lamonster described his hand brake mod.

Gas mileage..... I get right around 30 MPG in all conditions. Some report a bit less and some get a bit better. I think the average range is between 28 and 35 MPG. A few people get something outside of that range (as low as 25 MPG or as high as 40 MPG) but those have been rare.

Thanks to both of you for answering. It helps to make an informed decision when investing $15,000 +. Especially for those of us who are retired and are on fixed incomes!

You're Welcome James. Welcome to SpyderLovers. :doorag:welcome :spyder:

You have my undying thanks for your service as a corpsman. I owe my life to a corpsman in 1969. He had to start my heart twice!

my 2 cents

I think I would try to get the SE5 and try to move the brake from the right side to the left. If you find the post that lamonster did on his mod I think he said something about hard stops with the handbrake mod. like I said just my 2 cents hope it helps.

Hey James,
I am a LEFT AKA. So the Brake has worked for me. A little tricky with the Parking brake at timesbut I am managing. Will probably put a small extension on to make it a bit easier. I met a RIGHT AKA at the dealer a few weeks ago who had a mod done to have the handbrake mounted. It is the same function as the foot brake was. This works with only the hand and is ABS all around as the foot brake would be. The SE5 made the Shifter problem go away. I LOVE the Spyder - it has helped give me my life back.
