• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello all. I just bought a 2012 RT w/ audio and convenience. Got a great deal--at least I think so. Anyway--I just sold my 2001 Vulcan Classic so I was used to the cruiser type and the rumble sound. I noticed on the RT that the RPM's are high at highway speed--4500-5000. Is that normal for this type of bike. I am getting used to the different style of riding.

Also--looking to add fog lights and a different seat. Any suggestions?

Thanks

RPM'S

That is normal for a RT. They like to run at a higher RPM. I came from a Goldwing. Took a little while to get use to it. I cannot help you on the lights or seat. Mine is stock in that dept. Enjoy your machine!

:welcome: The Rotax 998 likes to rev... :2thumbs: Is your bike equipped with the SE-5 transmission? If so, please try to keep your rpms up over 3,500 (approximately). This'll allow the clutch plates to be fully locked-up, and keep you from toasting them prematurely.
Shifting at 5,000 rpm seems to be a good starting point.
:nopic: :D

The previous posters have you covered on the rev's. It takes a little time to adjust to the louder engine operation, but you have power, and some say better gas mileage with the higher rpms.

RE: lights and seat--The BRP driving lights work well and a BRP comfort seat is a big improvement over the OEM seat. Others use Corbin, Ultimate, etc. etc. Seats are expensive and very personal. BRP comfort seat will cost about $500. The others are usually twice that.

No, 5000 to 6000 is!

Just kidding! ;) Actually, the ideal range is 4000 to 6000 but I find under a load 5000 is good. In a no load situation like on a level city street, 4000 works good. Go on up to 7000 to 8000 in a hard push like a steep hill or passing.

I used 2" round LED auxiliary lights from SuperbrightLEDs.com mounted on the fenders. The factory lights look great but I didn't like the idea they are still incandescent and not LED. No suggestion to offer at all about the seat.

There you go...!!

welcome to the roadster world and this scary but amazing site. I remember the Bandit 600 that would not get out of it's own way till you hit about 10,500 rpm's and then it flew. But the big twins are low rpm engines and you now have the best of both worlds...

Just to clarify, the 998 is the high revving engine. The new 1330 is not. I don't want someone to read this post and then say "but they told me to run my 2014 at 5,000 rpm and it blew up" :banghead:
