• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hello all,

I am thinking about the purchase of a BRP Comfort Seat for our '11 RS-S. I've done a search and found that many do state that it is indeed comfortable, but I could not find the specific answers to the following questions. I'm hoping the owners of the Comfort Seat can help.

1. Does the seating position change with the Comfort Seat? IOW, do you sit higher or lower, or more forwards or further back, as compared to the regular seat?

2. Does the Comfort Seat eliminate the dip in the middle of the regular seat?

I am over six feet tall, and therefore sit as far back in the driver's area as I can go. This position also means that I'm constantly sliding forwards and down into the dip. Being tall also means that I cannot sit any further forward, or any lower than the original seat.

BRP Comfort Seat

I'm right at 6 foot, 30 inch inseam, I wasn't happy with the feel of the stock seat from the git go, didn't feel right. I love my comfort seat, I don't slide around and am very comfortable in the position it provides. My foot pegs are stock, no boards, and handlebars are stock. I get the feeling I want when on my :ani29:.
 
Comfort seat was an improvement over the stock seat--but did not notice a lot of change in seating position. With your height, you may consider handlebar risers--recommend 3" or 4" size.
 
Nancy switched to the Comfort Seat. She loves it, but I preferred the original seat. I have no accurate measurements, but it raises you slightly..an inch at most. It is hard to tell about the position fore and aft. That is because it plants you pretty firmly against the bumstop. At 5'2", Nancy used to "choke up" on the seat. After installing the Comfort Seat, she sat back to far, and we had to get the ESI risers. I am 6'0", and the seating position is good for me...with or without the risers. I would prefer a seat that was less dished, and one where I could shift my weight more easily, but that is just me. Any aftermarket seat seems to go against my preferences. I have never experienced the repeated forward slide on the Comfort Seat, so I think you will be OK in that department. Everybody is a little different, though.
 
I switched to the comfort seat and love it. The fore/aft position seemed to be the same. I only move forward if the wife is on the back. You may start a little higher but the seat is soft and you end up about the same height. The bigest issue I had with the stock seat was it dug into my inner thighs and caused my legs to hurt. This is completly gone now.

I would suggest that you Google the BRP part number and look for a sale. I found mine this way new for $325. Easy install.
 
I too love my comfort seat and both my wife as a passenger and I find it to be a better choice than the oem. Have not noticed any real differences in height, reach, etc.

With the blessing of some very gratious :spyder2: owners I experience an Ultimate, some Corbin's, a Russell and the Comfort Seat. After looking at my notes, the different seats didn't feel much different to me. When I added in the variable of cost, etc., I easily went with the Comfort Seat. It was less than 1/2 the price of the others and was a quick and easy change over. Both myself and passenger really life it.

Comfort seat was a big, big improvement IMHO over stock. Comfort seat is softer and not nearly as "pointed" down the center. Once planted I sit comfortably and can ryde for hours3no pressure points or slipping around. I don't notice any measurable differences in forward or lateral movements. I do have 5" adjustable risers and I sit very upright.

I recently just purchased a new Spyder RS as well, and I am in love! I have been gradually adding accessories as I go, and have found the comfort seat is my best purchase! Im right at 6 foot, and felt with the stock seat I was getting pushed forwards a little bit, Ive had the comfort seat for about 2 weeks and I can say the best part is how my back, and legs arent killing me after a long ride. The first thing I noticed with the Comfort seat compared to the stock, is the Comfort seat does give me more room from the bars and pegs which helped so much for making the ride ever better. Next I may do the bar risers, my buddy has the seat and bar risers and its nice... I got mine online for a good price with free shipping which was a bonus, Ill try and see where I got it and send you a message, got it quick too.

Thanks DW for the added information. My main complaint with the OEM seat was that it too pushed me forward. I really just want something that does not have that deep dip in the driver's seating area. I think the seat I ordered last night will help with that. If not, then there will most likely be a Comfort Seat posted in the classifieds in a few weeks.....

RE: Comfort vs. Ultimate... do you recall, are the seating positions similar?

I've sat on a Comfort seat, but not the Ultimate, but I'm leaning towards buying the latter for a few reasons (I want the dual backrests in that style), just like to compare them.

Agree with Scotty about not being able to shift weight comfortably. But I can ride longer with the comfort seat vs stock. The vinyl is also less "rubbery" and does not show scuff marks. The seat has two rubbery panels that rest inside your thighs to keep you from sliding around on it. Nice quality.

I switched to the comfort seat and it's a big improvement. I was still feeling like I was sliding forward a bit tho. Now I have the SBF Racing floor boards and that made a big improvement. Probably a testament to the flexibility of my senior knees.

If I need more seat support I'll go with the Russel Day-Long. I'm keeping the stock seat so I can send them that pan if that day ever comes. I had a seat like that on my GW trike and it was great, fabric cover and all.

Good deals show up now and then on the comfort seats so you could try one out a bit cheaper. You could always re-sell it if it doesn't work out.

I too, am thinking about the comfort seat. Does anyone know if there is a back rest for the driver for the comfort seat. We like to ride long distance and I would really like to have a back rest if we take a long ride. I have sat on a confort seat and it seams like it would do the job. I also sat on a ultimate with a back rest, it was very nice but I'm worried about the rain being we live in FL and they say they can't be in the rain without a cover.
