• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I have a nook color and I believe it uses a chrome browser (but not a full chrome) and I have verizon fios tv. With verizon fios I get free wifi that can be used at hotspots. Although my nook works with the verizon wireless at home, the nook's browser is not a supported browser and I can't set it up for wifi (hotspots).

Is there some way to load internet explorer, for example, on the nook color so that I can use that as my browser, when needed? :banghead:

Not exactly!

Too my knowledge, the Nook is a google device, and therefore will obey the rules and laws laid down by google.

Look on the market for an app called Dolphin Web Browser. I think it will help with what you are looking for, I use it on ALL my android devices.

How did you set up the wi fi connection at home ?

Is there a way to search for new wi fi hotspots? On my Acer pad, which is also Google, if I tap the wi fi icon in the lower right, It brings up a dialoge box with a list of available wi fi conections, and I choose the one I want. from that list.

The icon is in the lower right of the screen, similar to the systray on a wandows computer.

I have wifi at home that is based out of my verizon fios wireless router. However, for whatever reason, when I actually go to the verizon site that is specific to the verizon wifi, not to be confused with the verizon wireless home network, it states the browsers compatible with verizon wifi. I have google chrome; but, it is not the full version on the nook.

I have no problem getting on to, for eg., Panera's wifi and Barnes and Noble's wifi with the nook. The hotspots I'm taking about are at airports and hotels. For example, if I go to a hotel that offers wifi through verizon, but you pay a daily rate, I can use my other laptop, which I have set up for verizon wifi hotspots and not have to pay..

Browser type/version does not matter.

Browser type/version does not matter. Does not have anythign to do with connecting to wifi. Wifi connections are made outside the browser and the browser uses the established connection to get/send data. Verizon specifies browsers because they test and support specific types and versions. You can use other browsers but because they do not list them as supported they do not have to help you if you have some issues.

I do not have a Nook so can't help there but i would be VERY surprised if your issues were browser related.

Finding WiFi

What kinggeek said, browser and wifi connection are separate functions. Browser uses the connection your wifi card finds. I don't have a Nook, but it should have an instruction manual, or "help" file that will tell you how to locate network connections.

Wherever a store/restaurant has free wifi I can get on with my nook color. It's like places at an airport where there is a hotspot but you have to use your own provider to get on; in other words it is not free.

I was able to set up my Sony laptop with my Verizon user id and password to work where you have to sign on. But, in order to do a set up to use Verizon at these non-fee wifi hotspots, you have to use a browser that Verizon supports. I know now that it just doesn't support the nook browser.
