Question again on our new 1330 RT-Limited

What a step up from the 998---and 2012 RTS-SE5----Already put 78 miles on in one day here- and it wasn't even that warm out to ride. More fun to come along.

We did have a question---in the TRUNK- what in the world is that little shelf like thing that is attached with velcro on the top and on the bottom for? the bottom has a stitched piece of leather holding it on to the velcro there. We can't figure out what it is- or used for?

Can someone shed some light on that one?

Really like the changes we are seeing. So far so great!

Elembytes, That 'little shelf like thing' is just a potentially helpful organiser come tray for the trunk... With it in the raised position, ie stuck up on the Velcro at the top, it will hold a notebook or two, maybe a slim wallet or vial of eye drops... And if you clip the straps that should be fitted to the sides of the trunk down at the same level as the base together so it has something to rest on when hinged down on the strip of leather, you can fold the shelf down so it forms exactly that, a shelf that'll stop all the stuff you want handy from falling down into the guts of the trunk - or it can form a base for the trunk bag (optional luggage item) to rest on. :thumbup:

As Peter mentioned, it is mostly a trunk "organizer", although I don't find it that helpful. If yours has the cig lighter and the audio connection in the trunk, the trunk can serve as a place to rest items plugged into those ports while riding.

The good news about the rear shelf: it's easily removed!
Stick a knife blade under the adhesive that holds it to the back wall of the trunk, and start peeling!
I've left mine in place for the sole purpose of giving the top trunk's luggage case a place to sit. :thumbup:
