Question about purchase of my spyder

Hello, I am fairly new owner of 2013 St-S. Bought Spyder in June . Dealer told me I would get a welcome notice from Brp in about a month or so after purchase. Never received anything from Brp. I called Brp Customer service and asked about my welcome kit and they told me I would not be getting one as they only send those to the original owners. I told them I was the original owner and they said I was not as the vehicle was registered to the dealer as a demo . I then informed them that the dealer sold me the Spyder as new and wanted the welcome package We had to fax the bill of sale to them and they said they would change their records to indicate we were now the owners of the demo . Stil have not received anything from Brp . We complained to original dealer about heat problem and this is where we have come to. I did have the recall done at different dealer and they also said that they all run hot like that. Any opinions on this please

Is this normal practice to sell a demo as a new vehicle. Is there any diff between a demo and new Spyder. Thanks for the replies

Accessory book, spyder owner pin and patch

Is that so precious that keeps BRP being so restrictive ? Wear the pin and patch would not harm BRP and, by the contrary, would be a very good marketing action for them. I never got that kit and, now, if I get it I will not wear it - it will go directly to the bottom of my drawer. The whole thing sounds very arrogant to me, sadly. :gaah:

There isn't much to the package . . . what was listed above as well as some business card sized ads for BRP that they ask you to give people who ask about Spyders. The big question here is how many miles were on your "new" Spyder. Did your dealer really use it as a demo, which means it may have been over-revved by someone "playing" with it . . . or did the dealer intend to use it as a demo, but didn't because you showed up to buy it . . . if there were more than just a few miles on it when you got it, the dealer sold you a used Spyder as new . . . and that would be something to be upset about. BRP was just following its procedure to send a package to the first owner . . . the dealer screwed that up by registering it as a demo. As for "heat problems" that term is bandied about but not very specific. It can be engine overheating, "hot seat", melting of the master cylinder/brake cable/charcoal canister, or "hot foot" from the radiator ventilation near the right foot . . . or a combination. Which heat problem are you experiencing?

I bought a demo Spyder. There were 50 miles on the odo when I bought her, but the title says the odometer reading is 01. So on paper, it was a new vehicle.

Took about three months to get my Welcome Kit.

Demo or New

YES, it is common practice to sell a DEMO vehicle as new. The term for new is never sold from the manufacture or dealer there of to be registered and used by a private party. Do Dealers have to register with DMV that they have the New Moto vehicle from the factory and get a title for it? NO!

Now you an do a title search with many states.

Once a New or Demo is sold (sign on the dotted line) it then become "USED"

Or words similar to that effect.. in part taken from EBAY rules and regulations on selling and buying vehicles in that forum.

Purchasing a Demo

Our dealer, and BRP, handled a demo sale differently. The price was reduced 2K and the warranty extended 6 months from the time the machine was put into demo mode. The spyder had 252 miles on it when we (myself and spydercowboy) bought it and had been used as a demo for about 4 months. So ... we got the machine with 26 months remaining on the warranty -- it is our understanding that the regional BRP rep is the one that suggested / okay'd both the price reduction and the warranty extension (so it may not be across the board policy).

We still had to "push" BRP to send the welcome package because the machine had originally been "registered" with them as a demo. Believe the dealer had to send the purchase invoice (similar to your situation).

Best Regards .... Ann

question about purchase of my spider

aka Crap. I'll mail you my pin and patch, if you're really bummed out about it. The accessory book was just the stuff they have on their web site.
Thanks. I really dont care about the welcome stuff I just wanted to know if I bought a used spider. Dealer told me it was new Brp says it was a demo. Just another example of poor business practices. Thanks very much for all the replies. Gotta go ride my Hot Box Spyder

I am having extreme heat around the seat causing my thighs to burn and around the right lower calf and foot area.

Yep ep mine is still in the folder it came in ,really didn't know I was even had it coming till it showed up. The patch and pin just say can am spyder owner. I don't need to advertise other then just riding the bike

Let's see..!!

they most likely send units to dealers and designate one of each model to be used as demos. Now weather the dealer wishes to deal with demos is up to them. Those are registered as demos with BRP and the dealer needs to inform them that it was sold as new so they can send you the welcome package...for what it's worth.
As to the heat issues this site is riddled with posts dealing with this issue. They are working on it, maybe to slowly, and with admitting nothing. It will be fixed...welcome and congrats on your new ryde..!!

As to if your spyder was used at sale would be determined by how many miles were on the odometer at the time you took ownership. :dontknow:
