• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What is this button all about. Gee, i'll just add a CB, and it will work. Just push the button. OR - maybe the PPT stands for - "Push to Telecominucate" Just as functional, I'm tiking.

Works only with BRP CB, a $900 option! Some of us have tried to figure out how to use it for a handheld but haven't gotten there yet.

On my Goldwing I had the PTT button wired to my garage door opener. I would love to figure out how to do it on the Spyder.

It's tied into the CANBUS which is how the computer talk to each other. Unless you have the CB it doesn't do anything. I believe many have tried to tap into it but have not succeeded yet.

Hi Doc,
If you were to physically remove the electrical connections, that hook it into the CANBUS: would that cause any codes to pop up? :dontknow:

It's part of the printed circuit board in the LH switch assembly. Not easy to segregate.

The flex circuit was snipped in half to isolate it from the spyders electronics. The red and black wire was soldered to the flex circuit after carefully scraping the plastic layer off one side. The blob you see is 5 minute epoxy to prevent the soldered wires from breaking off. I epoxied one side, let it cure, then epoxied the other side. You can see the notch I cut into the plastic (near where the wires are coiled up) so the wire will not get pinched when the switch assembly is screwed back together.

The wires are routed the same way as the spyders. Mine run to the trunk where the ham gear is, yours will run to the handle bar for your CB radio. The hardest part of the whole job is soldering to the flex circuit. The traces are small and close together. And you need a temperature controlled soldering iron so you do not melt the flex circuit. If you have soldered before, you should not have an issue. Leave the flex circuit long, so if you screw it up you can cut that piece off and try again. I got it right on the first shot but I have been a electronics tech for 45 years :)

SpyderCruiser, I added a cruise cancel push button in the same location. I almost used the PTT button but got scared off by those little flex lines. I, too, am a retired electronics tech of 49 years. Good going on your handiwork.
