• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Purge valve

My dealer said they need to order a new purge valve for my unit.
They said they did a test and this is what they found.
Have to wait a week to find out if this helps the sputtering and spitting.
They said the webcam meeting determined this as the fix....
More to follow when the part comes in.

Interesting that the Recall Software broke your hardware Purge Valve:dontknow::D

Oh! Yeah! and none are in stock.

Still seems easier to me to put a clamp on the hose and not have to wait for a part that (in my opinion) may not fix the problem.

Step 1 - The hardware (Purge Valve) is working perfectly. Spyder runs perfectly. Spyder owner happy.
Step 2 - Change the computer program forcing the Purge Valve to stay open longer.
Step 3 - Now Spyder doesn't run right because Purge Valve stays open too long. Unhappy Spyder owner.
Step 4 - Determine that the hardware (Purge Valve) is bad? :hun:
Step 5 - Change out the hardware (Purge Valve) that was working perfectly when allowed to close sooner.
Step 6 - This fixes the problem? :hun:

I don't know.... Maybe it's just me?:dontknow:

Rather than pinch the hose, would it work to simply remove the electrical connector on the side of the purge valve? Seems easier that way.

I will pick my bike up and bring it back...I do not believe this will fix it, but hey, ball is in their corner and all I can do is have some faith.

Who knows. Logic may fail us this time. For your sake I hope it does.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I picked the bike up after they clamped off the hose until the purge valve arrives. Ran about 100 miles and it ran pretty well. Had some backfiring which I never had before but nothing major.
Just nice to have the bike back and do some night riding along the ocean last night.

So now it is a new day...last night ran like a champ, today feels like I am pulling a truck...I just do not understand the inconsistancy. And of course the dealer has no idea..."wait for the new update and try not to ride":gaah:

Got the new purge valve, no sputtering...still have alot of backfires.

The dealer said he found a small leak in the coolant tank so he ordered another one. Funny, my garage is carpeted, never had one before. Rode to meet a client for a beer the next morning, came back to a huge puddle of coolant that leaked most of the coolant out of the tank. No long rides for me until the new tank comes in.The fun just never stops.

I have lost over one month of riding, when the new update fixes my performance, fix my coolant and engine oil leaks, I will need to ask for a warranty extension

another disappointed owner after update !!

had update done august 13th. immediately noticed surging and backfiring problems that everone is speaking of but also noticed smoother shifting and maybe a tad more sensitive steering.

tried disconnecting battery and giving it time to "work itself out" but still runs terrible and am very disappointed. thought of doing the purge valve fix but wanted to let the dealer take a look at it first. took spyder back to dealer on august 31st and its been there since. dealer doesnt believe my wife and i that the update caused the problems, said he wanted to hook it up to computer and see if it will tell him anything. our spyder ran perfectly before the update and the only upgrade is adding a hindle exhaust.

dealer says update had no changes other that steering fix. he says starting spyder and not letting it warm up completely before shutting it off has fouled the sparkplugs !?! and that we might have to pay for a new set of plugs. what ?

we didnt pay 16 grand for something that the dealer is going to screw up and then charge us more for them to make it right again.
i tried to explain what we have seen and heard on this website and they act like we are crazy. becoming very frustrated and afraid that we made a big mistake purchasing a machine that not even the dealer understands !!

where can i get documentation that so many people are having problems after the update. i need something in writing to show my dealer so he will believe what we tell him !

next closest dealer is about 40 miles away in harlingen, texas......that may be my next step! sent an email to carlo at tech support for brp tonight. we'll wait and see what he says.

I pinched the hose from the throttle body to purge valve.. I no longer have the surge and crapy running, Not sure if %100 but for sure I don't mind how it is running now...
I think I will get an additional hose and attach it to the overflow short hose on the canister to run to back of spyder... ANY COMMENTS?????

Works great for me! Canisterectomy + Steering Update = Best she's ever run...

Sounds like the mistake may be in where you purchased from or are trying to get service done, not necessarily the machine. Everything has a potential for problems. How someone can help you get through those problems is the difference between a happy and a sad / mad customer.
