Hi All,
I tried searching and could not find a clear answer. If you have installed an accessory fuse block (specifically the FZ-1):
a) What did you use for the switched power source (wire color/location)?
b) How did you connect to it, did you splice/solder/quick connect?
d) "Best" or most convenient mounting space on a 2012 RT Limited?
My mounting was on a 2015 RTS so I'm not certain if you have the same configuration that I'm about to describe.
I located the FZ-1 behind the left hand side panel (shown in the owners manual as the #1 first panel to remove whenever removing tupperware). I mounted it using hook and loop tape and stuck it directly onto the face of the radio unit that is located behind that panel. I chose that panel since it can be removed without having any tools should you need quick access to replace a fuse.
For switched power, on the 2015 model (and others I'm sure but I don't know which others), if you stand in front of the bike and open the Frunk, on the right hand side underneath the zip out bag that you remove to get to the fuse boxes, there should be a rubber plug. This is for adding an additional power outlet (fairly low amperage if I remember correctly). I pulled out the rubber plug and fished around through the hole with my finger and I found the female spade connectors that are already there for the user to add the outlet. Using a Positap style of connector, I tied into the multi colored, stripped wire which is a switched hot lead for this spade connector. I then shoved it all back through the hole and put the rubber plug back in the hole.
By feeding a fairly stiff, colored wire through this hole from the Frunk side, it was fairly easy to find it on the other side, tape the trigger wire from the FZ-1 to it and then pull it back through the hole to be connected with the Positap connector to the switched hot lead.
