• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Product Warning Scorpio Alarms

Buggy

New member
I had a full featured Scorpio Alarm installed on my RT at a cost of $440.00 plus installation. It started to act up six months past its 1 year warranty. I called the distributor and they told me they don't repair units only replace them if in warranty. They offered to sell me a new unit at full price.

So essentially this unit is disposable after the 1 year warranty which I don't think is reasonable or fair for a unit that cost that much!

Buyer beware.

My SPY 5000 alarms is well over 2 years old and still working great...

Sorry to hear your issue but sign of the times honestly...

If it is made in China, and sold by non-big box stores, no matter what it cost, IMO its going to be a throw away. What I have found is that they make a run of something and that's it, no parts nothing. Something fails in warranty you get the latest same level replacement, out of warranty, zip.

Costco will unofficially take back anything any time. That's the main reason that I buy most things there. Your AE CC also extends the warranty. I believe that some other CC also do it.

Do you know if there's a significant amount of this product failing shortly after the warranties have expired?
If not: I'm not sure that throwing a Red Flag on them is appropriate...
I'm sorry that you spent a lot of money on an item that died, but sometimes: it just happens.

The red flag is only in relation to their warranty issues or better said their non repair policy. I made no comment as to the overall quality or funcitionality of the product. If I was aware of this before purchase I may not have. For me the lesson learned is to investigate potential after warranty service before investing a significant amount of money.

Cheers

Many of the alarms are made by the same manf company. What you are really paying for is the installation and possibly the name.
If all the wiring was done, it might be cheaper to replace it than the initial install. Maybe.

I would understand your complaint if something happened within the warranty and they would not fix or wanted money to fix.

Most small electronics would not be repaired. They just replace under warranty, often with a refurb that was repaired by them.

Maybe if you find a used one or same brand, it would simply plug in with no additional work?

I have had my Scorpio for 5 yrs and have had no issues, except that the plastic clips broke on the proximity sensor, holding it together, but I chalk that up to the location under the seat where there is some heat. I just put a tie wrap on it, and good to go. You did not specify what was going wonky? Could it be location of the attenna? Remote? Just wondering as maybe it is just a part and not the whole unit that needs replacing?
