There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Problems with tight corners

new to Spyders

Thanks all for the input and support I have always rode on the back of my husbands bikes so this is the first time I have ridden my own and with my husband only having rode 2 wheelers he is hesitate to give me to many suggestions since the spyder is so different then his VTX. He was ready to buy me a traditional trike after a day in the mountains and I was having all the issues. I am going to just practice practice practice and do the anti-sway bar on the bike.

I've only had my ST for 2 weeks now and, after riding two wheels for 40 years, I know it will take time and miles to get used to this :spyder2:

I have never ridden a traditional trike, only a three wheel atv, but have a feeling they corner worse than a CanAm. :yikes:

Hang in there. Everyone here is pulling for you! :2thumbs:

Hi there, new here in the forum. I purchased two weeks ago a 2011 Spyder RT Limited and would like to know if we have anyone in the Northern VA area that can do a laser alignment on my Spyder. I contacted Coleman Sports in Woodbridge, VA, and they told me that no alignment is required for the Spyder, Right? Give me a break please, lol. Any help to a newbie will be appreciated.

You can get a laser alignment from the dealer in Hanover, PA, about 90 miles from Alexandria, VA. This dealer is great . . . and Ryan, the guy who will work on your Spyder, really knows his stuff :firstplace: . . . a good dealer is critical to a good experience with your Spyder. As for the comment from Coleman that no alignment is required, that was "dealer speak" for "We are too cheap to invest in the laser equipment, but don't want to admit it too you. Also, we are too stupid to operate it."

Check out Motosports, Inc, in Hanover PA . . . trust me, you will be very happy if you do. They are just about the same distance from where I live, as they are from you, and I have closer dealers . . . but they are where I always go, now. http://www.motosportsinc.com/

Hard to explain this, but you need some power to get around the corners, not flat out fistful of power, but if you ease off/brake before the corner and use the throttle to "drive" you around the corner, rather than easing/coasting around, and as someone else said, look through the corner not at the corner. You will get the hang of it in time, so just be patient and try new ways until you feel comfortable.

Higher speed riding on curves. If you have to brake at the beginning your going to fast to start with. You should be able to accelerate during the curve. Plant the outside foot on the peg. Grip the seat with your knees. Lean a bit into the curve. Enter the curve from the wide end and head to the other side without getting out of your lane. The leaning and planting reduce the g forces. I can take most curves 15 to 20+ the speed that is posted if I so desire. Keeping the :spyder2: within the proper boundaries. I have never raised a wheel or lit up the nanny.

summary

Yep - all the comments you've received are spot-on.
Me too lady rider and had the same problem in the twisties UNTIL laser alignment on the RS - a whole different world opened up. THEN all the tips about weight on outside foot, pull inside bar (not push the outside one) & etc all suddenly worked - none of this really worked until after the alignment. Traded up to an STL and first thing was a laser alignment - one trip through the twisties was all it took to get me moving on this. It was "crabbing" round round-abouts and just not right on the bends. Now it's great. Still wondering about swaybar - the alignment seems to be doing it for me so far but as I get more aggressive I reckon maybe a swaybar will follow.
Have fun.

Hey im new and reading this thread i am curious if anyone can give me an idea what a laser alignment runs or what the sway bar runs to both buy and have put on?

Alignment and anti sway bar

Laser alignments run around 125 . Worth it.
The baja Ron bar 180 ish ? Worth it. Pretty easy to install, but a dealer would probably charge you an hour labor. A local bike shop would be much cheaper.

That installed?

Adding both to my mod list!!! thank you!! I will google the Ron bar see where to get it. i can agree with what someone said earlier. Having had all 3 types of bikes and although i havent put any miles on my 08 i have put about 500 on my brothers RT and i can confirm this will out handle any cruiser out there on the twisties, and its an RT. It will not however compete with my Yamaha sport bike, which is not even a super sport (FZ6R). The one thing about the can am is i will ride it a lot harder than my Yamaha because i have no fear or errant sand patch or rock in the road etc.

The 'Ron Bar' is the sway bar produced by Ron (or BajaRon as his business is called). Here's his SpyderLovers page with contact details is here:

Basically Sway Bar = Ron Bar for most people in the US:-) Sway Bars are relatively easy to fit yourself if you're used to doing your own maintenance on bikes etc. As Coz said, if you get a dealer to fit it for you then there will be an hour or so of labour.

I bought my 2010 RS a couple months ago and have been having a blast riding that is until now when I am on a two wk bike trip to Colorado and can not seem to figure out how to do the real tight corners. Have had to take the twisties at very slow speeds and not sure if it is me just doing something wrong or does the bike just not corner well. Any advice would be helpful.

Many of my customers have said that with their Seal Floorboards, they are able to push down harder and get better leverage going thru the corners. I loved the twists on my 09 RS SE5. Never felt the need to take them "nice and easy'.

Ride in comfort,
John

I like to push with my right hand into a left turn (let the left hand just float) and push with my left hand (and let the right hand just float) into a right turn, i seem to get more control that way, also try not to lean into the turn but actually TURN the handlebars into the turn, these are not two wheelers that have to lean, you will get all types of advice on here but do yourself a favor and try this, you may or may not like it but the option of which way to steer is yours.
