• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Prob after oil change

Did my oil change with the help of Lamont's post. This is the 3rd oil change that i have done myself but the first one with issues. First off, 08 GS. Mobil 1 racing 4t 10w40 oil. Drained both the reservoir and crank case, changed filter. Everything is tight. No leaks. Oil light will NOT go off and according to BajaRon the noise i hear is the lifters and the noise should go away when the oil light goes off but as i said it doesnt. Let it run till it was warm and oil light stays on and lifter noise is still there.

Thinking i need to start the whole process over again.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Which end did you put the rubber gasket into? The cap or the engine port?

Don't remember. Which way should it be? Pretty sure it was rubber gasket to engine. But i did drop it in the oil pan and may have put it in wrong.
Thats why i think i need to start over. :gaah:

Open end goes towards engine.

Glad you got it resolved quickly enough to avoid any damage.

You use 4t oil. I heard that wasn't good for the spyder. I could be wrong. Just heard it wasn't good for the clutch.

All is well that ends well! Glad you caught this one quick!

I did the same!

But......no offense intended here....... people should not be telling others on this site the "oil light will go out after a bit"!! It goes out so quickly it is unnoticed if the oil filter is in correctly. Fortunately I was skeptical when I was told this and just took it back apart. Engine damage occurs very quickly when little to no oil pressure is present!

Well now Hecoon, that's nice to know. I have a friend who changes the filters @ the recommended intervals and the oil every other filter. He also has had no problems and has been riding for 40+ years.

Not recommending this to others and wouldn't think of doing this while under warranty; however it does get one to thinking.
;)

I would say this is extremely bad advice. New filters don't regenerate the oil. The way our Spyders shred (shear) oil you're going to be running on very tired oil that will not lubricate properly. This means metal to metal contact which will put a lot more metallic particles into the oil. Of course you'll have nice new filters to catch them all! :yikes:

Not worth it...

For the price and work involved it is not worth risking engine failure not replacing the filter/s with each oil change. :lecturef_smilie: as the filter looses it's ability to allow oil flow from dirt build up the more likely your oil pressure will suffer....collapse the filter and you will have problems....
