Power Commander V w/ Autotune insane!

By far THE BEST bang for the buck mod I have ever bought. As many of you know I have a aerocharger on my spyder, I love the turbo the power is great and the support has been great from aerocharger. I did have some issues with my drive-ability tuning, specifically very lean conditions between 3500-5000 rpm when just cursing. Andrew at aerocharger spent several hours working on that specific spot which they did improve, but with that said I am a picky bastard. After speaking with Brad @ aerocharger he told me they had ordered in a new wideband closed loop system for me to try (that would arrive in a few weeks). Me being super impatient and hard headed I went ahead and ordered a PC-V and autotune system to try. I did a lot of research online and called into dynojet 3 times with a good list of questions, my main concern was the fact no maps existed for anything close to my setup. I went ahead and installed the system sunday and have taken it out on several rides in the last two days. The only word I can use to explain the system is WOW! The spyder runs smoother than stock from idle to redline, the downshifts are buttery smooth and the power increase is substantial to say the least.

If you are on the fence about this system I say pull the trigger as soon as possible, you will not be disappointed by anything other than the fact you didn't buy it sooner!

Hmmm. I talked to Andrew about this at Spyderfest on my bike and he said the only way to do it would be to dyno it and also have two separate profiles for winter and summer. Sounded like too much work to me. Since it still seemed to be a maybe for improving performance.

So yours is helping just as is? Interesting because I really wanted to do it too since the bike is so hard to tune otherwise.

Keep us posted please.

:congrats:

and I know it was a typo but I sometimes find myself cursing at the Aerocharger myself. LOL

and what is a wide band closed loop system mean?

WrapFactory, what did you end up using for your base map? Is there a way to look at the map after AutoTune makes its adjustments?

i disagree with dyno its only going to get u so close i ordered pcv and love it but the dyno is not real world conditions i found my dynoed pre set map was off quite alittle bit after comparing to vtspyders map as he used afr gauge in real time tuneing jmo though:dontknow:

Autotune will continuesly make adjustments so dyno is not a must and really don't need different maps for different season.
I am guessing andrew's recommendation was for pc only.
You can have multiple maps you can swap on the fly but it requires their $300 LCD, otherwise you connect to laptop to change maps.

You can see the maps and save them on your laptop.

It would be a very lengthy process to tune drive-ability with just the power commander. The key to this setup is the auto-tune module, it runs off a bosch widedand sensor (I now have two in my tiny exhaust) that actually tunes the power commander as you ride. The software has a map where you can set your target a/f ratio based on RPM and throttle position (EXAMPLE I have it set to idle at 14.0 at from 0% throttle to 5% then go to 12.8 until around 4500rpm where it drops to 11.8).

The system works perfectly and was pretty much dead on immediately, you can set a change threshold for how much you will allow the system to add or remove fuel based on the wideband (currently mine is set at 35% each way). After the first few rides you can plug in a computer and pull up a graph that shows what the autotune system changed, you can then "accept" the changes, Then it will allow the system to make adjustments to the map up to 35% more from that point.

Hope this all makes sense.

ALSO for those of us with boost, there is a input for a 0-5v map sensor (I used a AEM 3.5bar sensor). You can set the % of fuel added per lb of boost, turn the boost up or down and the computer takes care of the fuel needed. Between the map sensor and wideband autotune weather changes, altitude etc shouldn't make any difference at all.

Rode another 40 miles tonight, it's very odd being able to shift at 4500rpms. Fuel economy so far seems much improved, and I am running really conservative a/f targets.

were did you the setup you have from PC at? how much did you have into it if you don't mind me asking?

Just did some research and answered my own question. This will be in my future. The JB Pro was an improvement but is not what I want at all RPMs. I have changed more than what the JB Pro was set to handle. Thanks for posting this, great stuff!

Sorry if this sounds stupid but is this auto tune combined with the dyno jet v just a matter of plug in and ride and it in turn tunes the engine to run at its best? so that way there is no loading maps ect, and if so could you post the part numbers req to buy for a rs modal.
thankyou:2thumbs:

Not stupid at all, you do need a base map (which the unit comes with) then the autotune module tunes it from there for you as you ride. It is always plugged in and continues to make sure your tune is on the money.

Thats my one complaint! If you mount the PC box where the instructions show you to mount it (left side of the trunk latch) the wideband wires are about 8 inches to short, and the "can" cable that connects the two boxes together is REALLY short! I moved mine to the right side and everything was still a stretch but it worked. Everything is hidden away under the fues box / trunk latch trim piece.

Very clear explanation that sadly I only almost understand. Which is my fault entirely.

Basically, I need someone else to install it. (Cowtown) and then let Autotune do its work. I presume I can tweak it a bit myself and not screw anything up.

Question: What did Brad order for you and why? I read the words but was not sure what that would accomplish with your turbo. Sorry for being techno challenged. I like to go fast and don't understand how I do it. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

PC V not really very expensive. Looks like a bit over $600 without the fancy LCD.

Thanks for info. My turbo is amazing but the bike definitely needs something to tweak it. My horrible dealer suggested the PC but like I said earlier Andrew nixed it.

Amazon store has LCD for $239 and I think you would like seeing exactly what's going on at Any given moment, I did plus being able store and swap between maps on the fly (like aggressive and fuel saving cruising map)
You can have maps with different target afr to make dialing in easier.
You can even adjust closed loop afr on LCD if you get wideband2 instead of autotune.

Thankyou for your reply thats make it sound like its what I want, no hassel tuning just plug in and enjoy.
thanks
