Possible Shad top box mounting solution

I e-mailed Shad USA asking if they had any plans to make a bracket to mount a top box on the F3 and I've just heard back.

They are working on a possibility with BRP but it's unlikely to progress any further over the summer vacation period. Looking at 3-4 weeks before there's an update.

Hoping it will allow the SH39 top box to also work as a passenger backrest like this:

Thinking it will cost less than separate rack, backrest and top box. I would estimate about half the cost of the SH36 bag kit based on prices for other bikes.

I'll post any updates in this thread as and when I find out more.

I've been pestering SHAD for the last 8 months about a top box mount for the F3 and I've just had news that they will be producing one. Should be available within 2-3 months.

Not certain at this point whether it will be a BRP kit like the side bags, or just a mounting kit sold by SHAD. I'll update when I know more.

I will be first in the queue for this and I'll post up pictures once I get mine mounted.

No offence to the baker built rack (I'm sure it's very well made) but it's a bit too 'rustic' looking for me, not OEM enough.

It would also cost me a ridiculous amount to import to the UK. The SHAD gear has one advantage for those of us in Europe - it's made in Spain so it's cheaper here than in the US.

I have been looking at he Shad 58x for about 4 months. I emailed them and never hear anything back. I have the Shad side bags and this expandable unit is really looking like a winner for me. Have a look here,

I have a Baker Built luggage rack. Would like to mount it there if possible.
I really want a top box!
Thanks for posting this.

That's the one I'm looking at, it's massive and will co-ordinate nicely with the side bags. If you have the Baker Built rack I don't see why the SH58X wouldn't mount to that? This review shows some pictures of the mounting plate:

Don't see why you couldn't bolt that to the baker built rack?

I'm pretty sure the brackets SHAD will release for the F3 are going to be like this:

Just 2 arms that mount to the underside of the mounting plate. The SHAD mounting plate and then the top box itself form part of the rigid structure.

The SH58X will come with a mounting plate so it's just the brackets I'm waiting for.

I think we're gonna be a lot to have the Shad58x. It's also the one that I'm considering. I found it in Quebec for about 550$ (but not bought yet).

As I have an F3T and that I want to keep the removable backrest, the Bakerbuilt is not an option for me.

I found this one that seems to be a good fit:

But I'm not sure if it the back plate is long enough to install the top box.

Anybody has a setup like this ?

Just remember that the "tail" is real stubby on the F3 and F3-s. Those top cases or the Baker stuff overhang a fair bit and you should probably think about adding additional brake lighting for visibility.

I've seen the Baker setup at the rallies and the amount of overhang can obscure the tail lights from short view for large SUV's, tractor trailers, etc.

I've asked if this will be a SHAD or BRP marketed product and it will be SHAD, so not sold as a kit through dealers. I'm personally thinking this is better as the mounts can then be paired with any top box - plus they are bound to be less expensive that way.

Hoping to have an ETA soon....

I got the led light bar on mine for that very reason! It does help to be seen when somebody gets close at the stoplight. Your concern is valid.
