• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

posi-taps

Has anyone else had a problem where the piercing end (on the outside of the fitting) cut thru the insulation and thru some of the wire strands? I'm not talking about the piercing needle where it pierces the insulation.

I had a spyder problem but it gets kind of long.

:dontknow: I have used them extensively and differnt sizes and have not had a problem with any of them. The older ones have in excess of 3000 miles of very user unfriendly roads on them without loosening at all or any shorts and/or wire problems. I would be interested in hearing more about your problems.

Soooo... I take it you're talking Posi-Taps? Where the two plastic pieces come together to grip the wire?

I've never had a problem but I suspect it's possible if you tighten them too much.

.

:agree: Great product . I can see if you over-tighten them you could have a problem .

I got lazy one time and had someone install the 'ESI mud flap lights, which came with posi-taps. I never noticed a problem after that install. Then, I installed the 'ESI front fender tips' and 'day runners' after which I noticed the left side (sitting on the spyder) would intermittently blink slowly; I believe all three of the items I just mentioned. The right side was okay.

I called ESI and was told that below 4000 rpm's and that could happen.

This weekend I went to install the tricled fender tipz and found the posi-taps on the left hand side as I described in my previous post. So, I ordered new marker lights for both sides d/t the damage being so close to the socket assy. Today I went back down to the spyder to see what I could do on the right hand side. The posi-tap installs were okay and I installed the tricleds and they work fine. I went back to the left side and when I tugged slightly on the posi-taps the remaining strands of wires broke and the 'marker' light ended up in my hand.

I believe now that the intermittent slow blinking on the left was the result of the strands of wires broken from improper install of the posi-taps causing a higher resistance to current flow with a subsequent voltage drop (maybe).

The wires had to be cut pretty good for the socket to come off in your hand like that. I wonder if they were nicked during the install somehow, or if there was a rub that caused it? I have taken my Posi-Taps loose and rewired many of them several times trying out different options, and never experienced what you saw. When I tighten them down, I crank them as much as I can, and still haven't ever cut a wire with them.

make sure you use the right size posi-tap and you probably won't have to worry much about broken strands of wire. I also put some dielectric grease in the positap ends just to add a safeguard against premature corrosion.

The posi-taps used were the ones sent with the mud flap lights. I just think that the person installing over tightened them. But, I may take your advice regarding the dielectric grease.
