• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Pop Goes The Hindle...And A DPS Question

I bought a 2009 SE5 about 3 weeks ago. It had 1,500 miles on it and I've since put about 500 miles on it. It came with a Hindle installed, and it is backfiring occasionally, and also has a fairly strong gas/exhaust smell at times. I'm no mechanic, so I asked the service manager at the dealer what might be the cause and he seemed to think it was a leaking exhaust gasket. Does this seem right?:dontknow: This should be pretty simple/quick to fix, correct? Am I doing any damage by running it like this for a while?

Also while I was there, I had him check to see if the recalls had been done...he said everything had been done except replacing the DPS. I made an appointment for this but does it really need to be done? Just wondering...the steering seems to be fine to me, but I guess they're replacing them all...

I did not have problem with dps but When they replaced it, it was like I did not have much of "assist" before!!! It was so much easier to turn.

2009 SE5

Back in March '10, I bought an '09 RS SE5 with about 2,400 mi. Occaisonally, I smelled gas. I researched the forums and came across threads on the "Y Gasket". Go with the HONDA Y Gasket. It's a very inexpensive part and that should take care of the gas fumes problem. This is not covered under warranty but it's an easy fix. As for the popping, I too had the same problem, primarily during decelleration. Again I surfed the forums. I ordered an O2 Modifier from Evoluzione. Again, minor issue resolved! I don't log the miles that some Spyder owners do, but I'm passed 6,000 miles and a very happy Spyder owner. As for the DPS, I had no issues the 1st 6 months that I had my '09, then all of a sudden the dreaded DPS glitch got me too! I had to nurse my Spyder home. I immediately got on my dealer's list for a replacement. It took about 2 weeks to get one in & then my dealer had the replacement done in 1 day.

GOOD LUCK & ENJOY!

'09 RS SE5 - Trunk Liner, Fog Lights, Comfort Seat, Yoshi Pipe, Tank Bag, Cal-Sci Windshield, BRP Upgrade Grips, Billet Inserts, Grip Puppies, K&N Air Filter, O2 Modifier, Extreme Kempy License Plate Light, Spyder Detailing Graphics Kit, Honda Y gasket, ??? Starting to los track of my MODS.

I ignored the DPS recall for months because I didn't think I was having problems. Then out of no where at about 6000 miles the DPS problems showed up. I would get the recall taken care. The steering is much more responsive.

Thanks Guys!

Thanks for the responses guys. I have an appointment for next Thursday to get the DPS changed. I'll probably have them change the exhaust gaskets at the same time (now that I know they are called Y-gaskets, I searched here and found lots of info...thanks mguin!).

There are no Honda dealers anywhere near me...does anyone know a good reliable source for Honda parts online?
