• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Places to eat or visit during your ride in the Black Hills.

Starting a new thread here. We often get questions as to where is a good place to eat by people visiting the Hills, so I'm going to attempt to list a few of our favorites that may be less known, along with pictures, a website link, and location and area links. This will be a work in progress. :bbq: So many places to eat, so little time.

Here goes the first one. On the way to Mt. Rushmore from Rapid City on Hwy 16, in the ghost town of Rockerville is the Gaslight. Here are a few links:

They often have live music in the evenings. This night it was old country and Bluegrass.

As long as your here, S. Rockerville rd is the back way to Mt. Rushmore. https://goo.gl/maps/zUaa4rkfqz6m56UHA You will end up coming into Keystone from the east. In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_EIrg3pUAc you are catching it at the 4:21 mark, where it comes off Neck Yoke rd, about a mile or less South of Rockerville.

Another if you like Mexican, one of the better ones (authentic) IMHO. This is on Hwy 44 West of Rapid City.

Just a short ride East of Johnson's Siding through Rimrock Canyon. This Canyon often gets overlooked.

https://goo.gl/maps/Wh77fGwPWFNmELzKA this is a scenic route from Sturgis through Vanocker Canyon, down Nemo rd, then across Norris peak rd to Highway 44 at Johnsons Siding.

Ice Cream. After a long day riding you need Ice Cream. It's near downtown in Rapid City, but when you see the lines, you'll understand why it made the list.

As long as your in Rapid City, Skyline Drive might be worth the ride, especially during the evening. You can see all the way to the Badlands to the East.

More to be added, such as Alpine Inn, Cheyenne Crossing, Lewies, Guadalajara (Spearfish), Sugar Shack, Purple Pie place…

Guadalajara (Spearfish). This one and the one in Pierre are the two originals. The ones in Keystone and Deadwood are satellites that came along recently and IMHO not as good. It is on old hwy 14, so might be a good place to stop on the way back from doing the Devils Tower loop. https://goo.gl/maps/ese1gJTgRk8qFmbE8

one of the best steaks in all of the Black Hills is in Deadwood .... Legends Steakhouse in the basement of the Franklin Hotel across from Silverado on the "strip". They don't open until 5pm and there is usually a line waiting to get in.

here are some more from my list (was a local until last year)

Best Burger: Sugar Shack 10 miles south of Deadwood on US 385.

best ice cream: Jane's Boardwalk Pizza on the strip in Keystone.Trust me, one scoop is more than enough on a waffle cone! They are huge scoops!

best steak: Legends Steakhouse Deadwood (see post above)

biggest beer: Bumpin' Buffalo on the strip in Hill City

best pizza: Pizza Barn in Newcastle, Wyoming (16 and 85 on the west slope of the Hills). Just follow the signs and tell Chris and Pam that Rudee and Phil sent ya!

best chinese: Great Wall on east North St. in Rapid City (actually the best I have found anywhere).

Press start in Rapid City. Good pizza, great burgers and walk around downtown and meet the residents.

Almost of all my rides contain a planned stop, where I get a feed and fuel if necessary, and the comfort stop.

Always great to share experiences for others.

HI ALL. I was stationed near Rapid City in the late 60s and early 70s. Had a friend (lost touch) that owned Trout Haven. Tom would let my son catch trout and would cook them up in his restaurant. Don't know if it is still there. Was very good back them.

Indian Taco! :firstplace: Tom :spyder:

Speaking of Indian Taco...Cedar Pass Lodge, in the Badlands National Park, has always been one of our must stops. Been about six years now...but it was real good for the previous 20 stops.
