• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. PIA gas smell...le peuuw

I get the overwhelming gas smell sometimes in town when the engine gets hot with only 1/2 tank. Boiling gas I am sure is the culprit. Some day this is going to cost someone a life if BRP does not get a fix. Very careful never to close my garage door for several hours tip fumes have subsided.

What is breathing all these gas fumes doing to my health? I am sure it has some effect now and what about the future?

I have a 2013 RTS with all the updates except 2013-9. Still no improvement. Surely with all the engineering at BRP this could be solved. I am sure it is a cost problem to retrofit and BRP is not going to cough up the money to fix this dangerous situation.

You really need to get the 2013-9 done. It made a huge running improvement on my 13 RTS. However I am not saying (YET) that it is the fix for the heat issues until summer time temps return, but for the temps we have had (70's) the heat is noticeably less on the gas cap and frame backbone. My only other mods for the heat is wrapped exhaust pipes. I still have the evap canister and the catalytic converter.

I rode my RT for the first time since Oct. The gas smell is very bad. I did a 200 mile ride and stopped 3-4 times and the smell was terrible, I even smelled like it when I got home. I just want it gone.and would like to try a temporary bypass to see how it would work but I need some more info preferably some pics or something to show me where to go on the bike to attempt it'. It's no fun smelling like gas fumes after a ride. And the over filling the tank is utter bull in my case.

Fuel smell

I too have had this issue. It seems to be when it's warm and we have been on a hard Ryde through the twisters. I filed on the NHTSA site, if more people did this BRP would be required to do something about it. Let's go people:clap:Oh by the way just passed 8000 miles and we have only had it since July of 2013!

P U

so just got mine back a few weeks ago for fuel smell and a second water pump. they replaced teh canister, but a couple tanks later i'm still smelling it. same dealer I think...had to go back up there to get them to re route my garmin antenna lead they left under the tupperware and realign the tupperware. these mods look do able. gonna try them and put my complaint in with NHTSA.

First mid 80's ride today after the ECM update. Same 'ole story garage fumed up and my neighbor who owns a BMW smelled it and said mine never does that. Everything was good below 75deg haven't smelled gas since last fall.:dontknow:

I agree about NHTSA. I have filed a complaint there regarding this issue. Sadly, there are only 17 so far, and there are a lot more Spyders out there with these problems. File a complaint; there is strength in numbers.

went to register a complaint with NHTSA but - but they are asking for accident date , time , involvement , weather etc.etc. . Am I doing something wrong?:banghead:

Removing the canister does not solve the problem

Louise and I both have 2013 RTs. Both have the cats removed and header and y pipe wrapped. Bikes run great. But the fuel smell after a ride it horrid. Mine has the canisterectomy done, hers was left intact. Both have fumes, neither has been overfilled. I can say the exhaust wrap and bypass has helped both of them. I used to get overwhelming gas fumes just sitting at traffic lights and no longer do. Its mostly only a problem now when we park in the garage. Have to leave the door partly open for a couple hours to air out. When I removed my canister, it was NOT full of gas. Quite dry.

The problem is simple, its heat soak into the gas tank and the evap control system is not properly designed to deal with it. As the weather gets warmer, the problem gets worse.
